If you can get your hands on a trailer you can take the shells to the scrapyard and make a little money off of it when we are done.

if i rearrange things, i probably could get 2 cars in & still have room to work on 1. this is in addition to my miata. my big question is, how are we going to dispose of the shells when we are done? i don't want 1 sitting there for the next 5 years. as long as we have a plan i can get my wife to go along with it.

I'm looking at very creative ways to buy the needed safety gear. I'm also thinking if I have that stuff I could get back into instructing at track days and TT's. I really enjoyed that and this may be a good way to get back in the seat. This will also give me some motivation to get off me butt and train.Last edited by Jedi1; 04-23-2009, 04:01 PM.

It might not be a bad idea to go ahead and get any of those cars. If someone has somewhere they can keep it that would be a good start to building our own Lemon for next year and beyond. If you can get all three then you have a lot of spares for one cause they are all honda's.

for me, the cage is the big thing. i doubt i am going to be able to drive reguardless of the car. i have no driving equipment, other than shoes, for the race (i have an open face helmut). it is possible i will be able to afford a race suit before the race, just not likely. but reguardless, i will donate space & time to the effort.

Thanks Bill good to know. There are two really big things that make the MR2 the top candidate in this here search and one very unattractive thing. 1. It has a cage. 2. Drew and his brother really know Toyotas. That's the good stuff. The bad stuff is I know Bill won't fit in the car and I'm not to sure I will. We shall see.

i just got a line on a car locally. i have a friend that works @ tameron in hoover. they have a 92 prelude the will give away if you come get it. the interior is decent (sellable on ebay) with a few things missing, the body is in good shape as is the paint (that can be remedied), the engine is missing the radiator, egr vavle & a few other non-expensive things. it was not running when it was brought in & no one knows why. it was described to me as in good condition, just not running & missing a few things.
they also have an older civic & an accord. the both are missing numerous parts in the engine bay.
none of these cars have been race preped, so the mr2 might still be a better deal in the long run. just presenting options if that doesnt go through.

"It's not a matter of "can you," it's a matter of "can you convince the judges of the story's legitimacy?" There's no rule against doing it the way you describe, it's just incumbent on you to document/photograph/notarize enough of the whole exchange to convince the BS judges that the story holds water."
This was the response to Can we run a previous LeMons car if it is given to us and spend $500 on the drivetrain. I think we can document things thoroughly enough to make this work. When do we go take a look at the car to see if it passes the next hurdle. As in, can I fit me giant self into the thing comfortably enough to drive it in a 24 hour race.
24 HOURS!!!!!

I almost ran away with the LeMons people when I crewed for my NASA-SE Pink Panther team at CMP last month. They are MY PEOPLE, i'm telling you!
Everything is up in the air with us right now, hard to plan into the future until we settle a few present things. But please tentatively count me in as crew!
By the way, crew admission is $75 and spectator $30. The only difference is pit access. At CMP there was no difference in access, it so happened, but I wouldn't count on that at every venue.
I believe fuelers & anybody over the pit wall has to have a fire suit & helmet.
And for the first time in 2009, LeMons requires full face helmets for drivers.
I would suggest everybody interested in doing this go read the rules. They are hilarious and make a great read!!
May I suggest adding a category to your budget called BRIBES FOR THE JUDGES. Just don't try to give them lite beer, you will get sca-rewed some kinda way or another.
May I also suggest you think about on-track communication. My team just used a PIT SIGN but a radio setup would have been nice. No loose radios.
Don't forget about transponder cost. Hopefully somebody among you whiz kids has one of those.

Well i would rather be honest. What happens when you go over your $500 budget is you go in front of a court and they decide whether or not they want to penalize you. so i want to be honest so they won't penalize us if we go over. I know that sound kind of dumb, but when The Van Cleef's did it they were over by a lot and because the asked them if the could do the modifications they ended up not getting penalized.
