What was the guys name that you emailed. I need to ask him if a previous lemon is given to us do we still get the $500 budget.

Just got this reply from the LeMons folks.
Hey, Sean:
No, it's the same price as all the rest. Think of it as free extra misery for the entrants--JL
So, straight up 24 hours for the same money. If we are going to do this, that's the one!

Thats if we use the MR2. It includes everything except the motor. Which would probably about $100 a person maybe less. It all depends on how cheap we can get it.

hmmm
It's interesting. Does that actually include the cost of the car, motor and the entry fees? It looks like it might not.

I have been working on a tentative budget. Right now tis should cover everything, Travel, lodging, and the race.
This is cost per person:
$200- entry fee ( 100 per driver plus the $500 for the car)
$800- driver Equipment ( Helmet, suit, gloves, shoes. You could possibly go cheaper but in my case i would like my equipment to last. )
$120- fuel cost ( that is travel and fuel for the race. Roughly burning about 5 gallons an hour for the race.)
$120- tires ( hopefully we can get this cheaper but to be safe $120. 5 sets. )
$120- food ( that should be all food for the entire event )
$50- license ( unless you already have a legal license )
$10- camp ( the track charges $50 to camp. )
Total per person:$1,420 ( safe to say $1,500)
Total budget for team: $7,100 ( Being safe $7,500)
All of this is up to change with each persons needs.

I honestly think the only way this going to be feasible is if we use the MR2. I just don't think it will be financially smart to pass up the offer to use it. But Bill is right it doesn't have to be fast it just has to be able to drive for 24 hours, And a caprice would be able to do that easily.

Um, Bill. After drivng that Marquis a few events back I can ni all honesty say, EEEHHHYUCKKKK. It was 100% a turd! But it would take a hit!

i have actually sat in a 1st gen mr2 all ready. i can get in & make it move, but to actually race it i would have to have a pan seat bolted to the floor. that might present a problem for some of you verticaly challenged folks. if the mr2 is the way to go, i will sit out driving this year & just help build. then i will start looking for something else to build for next year!
i have read some articles about driving the lemons & i really have to think something like an '80's caprice classic would be just about the best vehicle for it. but the prereq for that would be finding one cheap enough. plus we could show up @ the race w/ 20" wheels & that would be da bomb, yo.

I have a trailer and access to a truck as well. I'm tall but skinny, I'd fit wouldn't I?
I wonder if tirerack still has the bridgestones on sale...

Chuck, there are ways to make this work. It just requires some thought. I have thought of a few ways to make it work already! : )
http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/rules/ has pricing, etc.
Creativity is good. Very important is staying out of trouble with 90+ other cars out there in a mile or so of track.Last edited by chuck schultz; 04-20-2009, 07:22 PM.
