JohnW8,Originally posted by JohnW8 View PostAttention Time Trial and PDX Drivers! It’s been a long cold winter and now it’s time to get thing heated up! The COOLSHIRT 2010 TVR/ALSCCA Time Trials Championship Event and School and PDX is ready to start the year off with some fast times at the track.
The COOLSHIRT 2010 TVR/ALSCCA Time Trials Championship Event and School and PDX will be held April 17-18, 2010 at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway. Tech and Early Registration check-in will be held Friday, April 16 at the Track starting at 5:00pm.
PDX Drivers! Just so you can see what racing in a Time Trial event feels like, we are having a PDX for you running concurrently during the time trial event. You will be in a run group with other PDX drivers but mixed into the group run order, just like the time trialers. There will be instructors for you to help get you up to speed and show you the proper line around the course. Get a feel for your limits as well as those of your car.
Safety requirements can be found in the 2010 Time Trials rulebook under Level 3 Track trials and Level 1 for PDX entrants. Go to http://www.sccattse.org/ttrules.html for the latest TT Rule book.
Entry forms are available below or at http://www.sccattse.org/ttrules.html so hurry to secure your spot. To maximize track time there is limited entry on the PDX so don’t wait for the last minute. Fill it out and send it to Craig Farr before April 1. 2010. SCCA Membership is required. Everyone must sign the waiver at the gate.
Craig Farr, REGISTRAR
152 Nale Drive
Madison, AL 35758
Event news and updates will be posted on http://www.alscca.org/community/forumdisplay.php?f=4 and http://teamtac.org/e107/e107_plugins...ewforum.php?24
Come join us and compete against and learn from some of the best drivers in the South East Division.
Workers are needed! Email me jbw92563@gmail.com with your experience and contact information.
Without you events like these can't take place. Thank you for your support!
Thanks everybody!

I was recently invited to a track day with some friends at Little TGP. I have raced the track before on a motorcycle. I have to say this was quite an experience in a car and i am hooked. I have been looking at what i would need to do to get more time and experience and ran across your post. Obviously, i cant make the April 1 date for this one but i may be able to make future ones. Could you point me in the right direction for what types of cars are allowed and the requirements? The track day was the first time i had run my car on any road course. I ran 1:13.6 consistently on street tires. I was getting quicker by the end of the day. Afe there training classes i can go through such as this "PDX" and where can i find information on it.
Thanks,
Kenny D.

Sorry, but I am unable to equate the screen names to the real names on the entries.
The PDX has 3 spots left. We are capping it early at 10 drivers due to the low PDX response and in order to give everyone the maximum amount of track time..
Here are the 7 entries I have:
Greene Todd SpM Miata
Harness Matt 90 E30 BMW
Hardiman Rod CSP Miata
Gillespie Dean GTV Alfa
Brakhage Joesph Focus
Barnett John 74 ITB VW
Rogers Eric BMW
If you think you are coming and going to enter late, you better be dropping me a line at my home email. farrout <at> knology.netCraig Farr

CS does not exist for TT. You usually get bumped up to CSP.Originally posted by rodhx View PostCraig,
Not sure if it really matters for a PDX, but my car is in Solo CS, not CSP.

For the PDX it does not matter since cars are not running in class for time. It just helps me identify the cars easier.Craig Farr

Our event is April 17-18 so there is stil time to get signed up for the pdx but we have changed the cap to 10 from 20 due to low response and more track time for everyone.Originally posted by ksupersport02 View PostJohnW8,

For the PDX just about any car is allowed on course as long as it passes our technical inspection. The Tech inspection covers the basic maintenance like brakes good, tires in good shape, throttle doesn't stick and in the case of convertibles has rollover protection. etc. You would be paired with an instructor who can show you the line and help with driver input timing as such he/she needs the same safety equipment as the driver. IF you have a Lajoie race seat on the drivers side with 7 point harness, you'd need to have the same on the passenger side. Most folks are content with the factory seats and seatbelt arrangement.
During the PDX you drive at the pace the instructor thinks best until he/she can see what you can do. The more comfortable the instructor is the faster you can go. There are no laps timed in a PDX since it is a learning experience and not a competitive one.
So if your car is up to it, and you want to have some fun, send Craig Farr an email telling him you want to drive the PDX.
TT is a different critter. There are classes of vehicles listed in the GCR (General Competition Rules) from SCCA. We usually run the Road Racing Classes (Listed in the supplemental regulations) as well as the SOLO classes of Street Modified and Street Prepared.
Vehicle safety requirements go up as well as driver safety requirements with Time Trials since you are driving at 10/10ths speed looking for the perfect line and the fastest time.
You'd need a Nomex driver suit, nomex sock, Nomex undies, Nomex shoes, Nomex gloves and to make sure you wouldn't need all the nomex, a fire extinguisher in the car and a SA rated helmet. Your car would need a minimum 4 point Roll bar. We have a TT school at TGPR annually to license folks to run the Hillclimbs in the Carolinas and North Alabama.

Do the shoes have to be nomax also? How about SFi approved?
I thought this
"8. Shoes, with uppers of leather and/or nonflammable material that at a minimum cover the instep. Ventilation pinholes by the manufacturer are allowed."
So we did not order a pair of driving shoes. We can if needed but we were going to wait because we had to buy everything at 1 time.Last edited by hondamaint; 04-05-2010, 09:56 AM.Paul Street
