I want to buy a paintball gun for that. I'm pretty sure this pellet gun would put a dog down at 20 yards.
Paintball gun or a blow gun with some plastic stunners. Maybe they make low speed low density stun pellets? seems like most of the stuff is for killing varmint.M. Cholewa

Not that I endorse it, but a pellet gun is not likely to kill something the size of a dog at any distance. It would cause some tissue damage and lots of pain but it would take a miracle shot to kill something much larger than a squirrel. Take the stated FPS for any pellet gun and assume you're actually getting about 80-85% of it at best. I have shot mine over a chronograph and confirmed it.
Think of it this way. Standard velocity .22 ammo runs about 1050fps with a 36-40 grain bullet. You *might* be able to get a pellet rifle to hit 1000fps with those lightweight pullets, but those things only weigh about 8 grains. So you have about 25% of the kinetic energy you have with a .22 with a lighter projectile that will not penetrate as well.

PBA Ammo comes in higher grains and shoots at much higher speeds than lead.
I think a paintball filled with apple cider vinegar or some other dog deterent would be baller (SO PUNY)M. Cholewa

That is impressive for sure but not the norm by any stretch of the imagination. I have pba ammo for my gun as well, a Gamo with the same specs as the one in the video, and I have not seen anything similar to that performance. The PBA advantage is solely that it is lighter than lead. The only way to get higher velocity is with lighter projectiles. The question becomes can the velocity squared increase outweigh the mass reduction. That and the shots in the video were at very short range.

Let me know, I still wanna make one of these things!
Just noticed the thread on dog deterrent ammo. Had to comment on the pellet gun not being able to kill a dog. I'd like to offer that - no, it won't immediately kill a dog - but I have been called up to the clinic on emergency for a dog with a "puncture wound" but the dog was rapidly going downhill. They came in, we did an x ray of the abdomen. The pellet had penetrated the dog's side and lodged in the opposite side of his abdomen. Several loops of intestine and the spleen were damaged. I did surgery and fixed him, but without surgery that night, the dog would have died a slow and very painful death. So they can kill a dog with some bad luck. Being a vet that works nights and has been on call for emergencies in the past, I highly recommend the suggestion of a "safer dog deterrent", like a paintball gun or similar option! It may save a family a lot of grief - believe me, I know that dogs owned by someone shouldn't be roaming around, but things happen and it's not worth the potential grief.- Jordan, GS-15

BTW, I have a new product line for the Cholewa/Hardiman pest deterrent paintball venture...bee poison. Stupid wasps build all around my house well out of range of normal options. Paintballs loaded with a non-staining wasp "nerve gas" would be just about perfectRod H
