Good, healthy discussion for the most part.
Question for all, How many Metal to Metal contacts have been reported in SEDIV Time Trials on a race course?
Yes, one is too many, but are we arguing about a problem that doesn't exist?
While a racer may use the TT sessions for practice or tuning, I doubt many of them care about the "perfect" lap. If they are in front, and do not encounter lapped traffic the racer may have a perfect lap. You will likely never have a "perfect" lap in a road race.
As a TT'r I don't have a problem with open passing but understand and appreciate that others might, especially in a corner. First rule about being on track is situational awareness. Period. What is going on in front of you as well as behind. We should be striving to ensure that TT'rs develop that situational awareness. As a club we have NOT done a good job in that regard.
The underlying assumption by many is that racers will risk metal to metal contact whereas TT'rs do not want to risk metal to metal contact. I think that is wrong with the possible exception of Spec Miatas.Neither group wants to be doing bodywork.
This is about compromise to make it work. IMHO, mandatory attendance for TT and Road racers driving in the TT at the drivers meeting or you are excluded from the first session is a good start.
YMMV, Carry on.

I'd like to reemphasize one comment I made earlier - we need to punish/dissuade drivers from arriving late for grid. If any driver arrives too late to grid properly, they will be more likely to be a problem on track, moving forward or backwards in the field until they find their natural place.
I propose holding any late arrivals until after everyone else completes one timed lap. That way, they will cause the least disruption to results.Chuck Schultz

The GCR has procedures for late arrival. That is what we usually follow.
Holding late arrivals for one timed lap does nothing to resolve the passing rules violations. In fact, that would tend to penalize our 2 driver TT cars.Craig Farr
