Sorry to hear that Rod. Was it the Test N Tune or the 1st points event? It sounds like if there was only one person at your worker station the course was too big for the number of workers available.
john thats a great idea in theory however in order for that idea to be put into use one of two thing must happen.
everyone preregisters and SHOWS UP(which has its own issues)
or we wait until registration closes to start the course(which means we start around lunch and may/not finish before 7pm.
and FYI, for those of you looking to step up to bigger events. they don't allow ride-alongs. So make sure you get your walk done at least twice.
I think we start shooting for about a 50 second course. If we had 100 folks showing up we could man the 70 second courses that we are used to, but we just don't have that many showing right now.
It will hurt not using all the tarmac available to us, but in the long run it will be a smoother event me thinks.
I agree Ervin. A major benefit of online preregistration is to give the organization the ability to know how many are coming. Work assignments can also be done ahead of time as well as run groups. The big long courses have become a trademark for the Alabama Region and while I don't want to get away from that completely I think we need to build in the ability to adjust the course on the fly, so to speak, and shorten the course if our turnout is low. Also in the heat of summer a short course will work better for getting folks there runs in without the workers having a heat stroke. After event cone pickup would be much easier too. Just ¢.02 from another driver.
5 Stations instead of 6 really doesn't solve the problem, it just give the folks alot bigger area to police and honestly will run people to death. We can't have that. Low turn out means a smaller course. That's just a fact.
what I am speaking of is majorly over hauling the total course, I feel you could still have a good solid course without that many stations or making the course to far away.
But if you make a course that is still large yet requires less stations, would the course not be too easy if there was very little chance of hitting cones?

Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.
I agree turnout has been smaller last 6 or 8 events. It would be sad if we were to go back to a 45 second course just to satisfy 3 or more workers per station. One of the best things ALSCCA autocross has going for it is the huge expanse of pavement at the BRC! I feel we should be able to solidly man a 60 second course with almost any size turnout.
