Here's an idea - how about assigning somebody to write down times and penalties for each car on a big dry-erase board. This would keep folks away from the trailer asking questions, would notify folks of penalties, and would allow dim-witted folks like me who don't communicate as well verbally (via PA) as they do visually, to see how they compare to others in class as well as see other rivalries in the making.

Oh, I've suggested that before? At least once each year? OK, this is my quota for this year.

    • in other clubs I have been in we had a guy at the finish right down time, cones, and dnf's on a sticky pad for cars as they finished.

And I have agreed with you for at least the past two years. I also have the post-it notes in my helmet bag that have been there for at least a year.

          • We were doing the time and penalty thing at the end of last season. We ned to pick it back up. The hardest thing about this to get the station the cone was called in from during all the other chaos. Not saying it can't be done, it's just a tad difficult to sort out the calls sometimes. We can work on it though.

            • Guys, i agree that it would be helpful to do a board or sticky notes or something, but please understand that we sometimes have issues even getting enough workers on course, much less creating new worker positions.

I sit in the trailer and I hear the announcing. For the most part, the announcers do call DNFs and cones as the drivers return to grid. They do goof off a bit, but they do call times as well.

              • while that is true Matt, when the surgeon Dr. Bracnch was carving through the course I didn't hear his time or cones called once, for that matter I believe Darryl only got one of his times called

                • You may be correct. I do not know who was calling during heat 2 and honestly wasn't listening.

                  • I was helping in timing and scoring for Heat 2 ... Due to relatively catastrophic events following darryl's runs --- (once the timing lights, second a full course red flag) -- his times were not announced on his earlier runs....

Also, for any patient who had a DNF, I stepped out of the trailer and waved frantically .. for people who noticed and came over, --- Wally Lacey being one of those .. I explained where they DNF'd .. People who didn't look over to the trailer didn't get any feedback. This system was something I just made up, but frankly didn't work so well as people weren't expecting me to pop out.

Without adding any worker responsabilities, perhaps T+S can talk to grid and grid can walk over and give feedback to drivers??

                    • Also, Cones are called in very quickly and timing is ALMOST always up to date by the time the car crosses the finish.

                      • One thing I try to do is use the notes area to mark the DNF station. When I do this, most of announcers catch on and call it. I didn't do it so well Sunday though ... I was barely functioning at all.

                        • We can definitely put in some kind of system to let people know where they are DNF'ing if they want to know... if we wanted to make it a point to put the station in on the notes, or even get a corner worker to tell us if they missed a gate or went the wrong way on a slalom or something... So that the person who DNF'ed knows that they can come ask someone in the trailer where they are DNF'ing... just a suggestion! I'm pretty sure I'd be able to handle the questions, unless we were having timing issues or something...

                            • There already is a system in place to help folks who dnf too much. Ask others in the grid for a ride along. get a ride on the course at speed without the distraction of driving.

If there's a problem with missing a particular gate by too many people contact the course designer. The course may need to be adjusted.

                              • Remember when we used to have course maps that we would hand out? Why not make a one and leave it at each station, with each gate numbered, so we can be even more precise...
