And it's not like we're a very competitive region either. Not many of us go to national events, a larger group goes to regional stuff, but for the most part we're a local club in the solo scene.
But there's a certain point where you either win or don't, and it has nothing to do with drops. If you first place in 4 events, you're ahead of whoever's in second place regardless of what happens at the next event. If you can't get enough first places finishes, then you can't win the championship - which makes perfect sense. Why give it to the person who finished in second place at every event except for the two the normal winner didn't show up to?
You get the points, you win, you don't get the points, you don't win. If you want to run for championship points and actually have a chance, plan to be at every single event. If you can't, then don't bother running for points, just have fun.
I guess you have never heard of CSP and the Marshall.

But having the opportunity to get the points rests solely on being able to attend most all of the events....especially in some of the more crowded classes.
As Rod said, one good thing from this is that people are looking at the Supps before the season starts and debating.
The Supps have been set for 2012 and are not going to change. If debates continue throughout the year and something really changes by the end of the year and voices are heard that want drops then that will be debated and talked through. Mark and I might not be Solo Chairs next year, maybe we will, I don't know; but one thing I have learned is that things put up for debate and vote still don't make decisions. Decisions have to be made by someone. Mark and I are that someone for now for Solo. We hear just as many people saying they like all points counting as we do people asking for drops. So as any other event, we can't make everyone happy. Frankly, we make a decision and we live and die by it.

I cannot make all of the events because of my priorities but if there was a Pro or Open Paxed Class this year I would't displace people running for points when I can show up.

This is the key, at the Regional level. I don't have a chance at a championship, these days, but I've been around this stuff for over 20 years, so I may have some perspective, or at least an opinion based on experience.
Remember, the Region's mission is to provide a fun, relatively safe place to play with cars.
Making the choice to allow drops or not will favor certain members of the Region, no matter which way you rule. Not allowing drops actually favors a minority - those who are serious about points, and who will never have to work or have other obligations on days that happen to fall on event dates. Allowing a drop or two favors the majority - those who want to have fun, whether they are serious about points or not.

Because they heard I liked my name, so they put my name as my name so I could have my name in my name... all the time.

I'm pretty sure that we have a PAX class or Pro class option that we just haven't released as a tick box in years past. I wouldn't think it would be difficult to do this class as an option, and it could be a popular decision for those that would like an open class to run in.

This is a good thing, that a decision was made early. I just don't recall any discussion since the start of last season, when there were some complaints, followed by, paraphrasing here, "We can fix it next year, if folks don't like it."

Again, with respect for the work these folks are doing, one last question - Is there any chance the new venue made the difference, rather than the points structure?
Sure the new venue made a difference for participation.

Let me throw out some numbers to you all who are in favor of having drops.
For 2011.....
31 participants drove in enough events (6+) to be considered for the championship
Of those 31, only 4 participated in all 10 events
2 of those 4 won their class. (Sara and Rod)
Even including 1 or 2 drops would not have made a difference in the final outcome of any of the 4 peoples positions who attended every event.
Therefore, the ability to win a class is not based on attendance, but driver ability. So why are we debating this when a vast majority (87%) of those who attended 6+ events didn't even make every event, but yet it still didn't change the final outcome of the standings? Riddle me this....
