No, we still need people coming out as much as we can get them to come. So if you really want that ALSCCA championship, you're gonna have to come to as many events as you can. It is a Yearly Championship, not a part of the yearly championship.

I see the point, but consider it the other way ... miss one event due to unforseen circumstances, and why come to the rest? Even several of the "core" attendees miss events unintentionally.
There is MORE incentive to keep coming WITH drops as you have 1 or 2 events where you could improve your standings since the lowest scores drop.
But we've had this conversation and no one agrees. So be it. =)

Not that it matters, but I agree! It's been shown time and time again that attendance improves when drops are allowed. For all of the reasons TouringBubble mentioned.

As I said, this was debated. We decided that the year long accumulation of points added enough spice to the championship that it warranted keeping. We have people that will show to every event because they want the championship. If you want the ALSCCA Championship so badly, then you need to come to every event.
If you miss one event, then feel that you are not in the hunt for the Championship, and decide, well, I'm not coming to events anymore because I can't win, then you are completely missing the point of our club and running autocross. Yes, its a Championship (a year long one) and it is competitive, however, it is also very much a social activity and I hope a very fun social activity. If you don't want to come to events because you can't win, then obviously you are missing the point, and probably wouldn't come to all the events if we had drops. At this point in our growth, we doubled the attendees last year versus the year before. We need people that want to come every event that is possible. A year long championship entices participation. That is our goal for now. More participation.
When someone else wants to step up and become Solo Chair, and report to the board every month that they are losing money at events, or making money because numbers are going up, then you can put into place any system you want. Until then, Mark and I are setting up the Supplemental Regulations with what has been shown over the past few seasons to work.
Looking forward to a competitive 2012 Solo Season.

I think our recent local experience shows that championship points, and the related points structure, are a non-issue for the majority of our participants. Otherwise we would have more drivers making the effort to show up for at least 6 events in order to qualify for season-ending class titles. There would be more class championships if drivers completed the minimum number of events. Drops or no drops only come into play in a better subscribed class with multiple championship-eligible drivers.
I believe this year only SM may have been impacted by allowing drops. I know STR, ST, and Novice places 1-4 would not change had drops been allowed.
The big positive of this thread is that folks are actually looking at the supps & point structure at the start of the year. Hopefully we won't have to have the same discussion at the end of 2012 that we had at the end of 2010 and 2011
we should get it vinyl'd to the side of the trailer.
I had handouts when these were first produced in this format. Not many were picked up or looked at. It really doesn't matter unless you are competing for a Championship. I told the girls at Hooters about my CSP Championship.... Impressed? They were not.
It's a dang championship. Not a "best average". Anyone is just as likely to miss an event, so that's just part of racing. If you're in it to win it, then be in it to win it. I'd be real pissed if I attended every event and gave it my best, and obtained more points, and then got beat by someone who missed a quarter of the season.
I say, let competitors have the option for drops, but drop their BEST events of the season
