I say, let competitors have the option for drops, but drop their BEST events of the season

Sam is going about his competition search backwards. He ought to run XP rather than convincing someone to run STX.

running XP would be taking the easy way out. But if I cant get enough people to run stx i'll be forced to switch.

XP is for the cool kids, you're not cool enough to race with us. You also have tires that are too fancy for us.

No dog in this fight, as I'm in TVR, but both years I've autocrossed there has been at least one event in Huntsville that I could not attend because I was out of town for work. I had no choice in the matter, no matter how much I tried to arrange things to avoid conflicts. So those who say "If you want to win your class championship, show up" live in some other world from me.

Just win 1st every single time you show up and you'll have it in the bag. After 5 first place victories you're a whole event ahead of 2nd place (10 points per 1st, 8 for 2nd I believe). So then come back and continue winning each event and you're a shoe in!

                          Here are my thoughts...

Personally I think that allowing just one drop per year would be ok. I know that you guys say that it's a YEARLY championship, but I know from my work schedule that there will be some events that I won't be able to make. I plan on running for a championship this year so how will this affect me?

Not everyone has it made and has every weekend off. That's just a fact of life. Because of this, I think that it should be put up to some sort of vote. Use the newly updated club announce e-mail list and get some feedback from the membership if you want.

Everyone agrees that the goal is to get attendance up as high as possible, so why not leave it up to the membership to decide? Again, it's you and Mark's ball of wax so you can roll it however you want, but this is just my .02.

I understand not EVERYONE can make it to EVERY event. But the same thing happens in any other kind of racing. There are professional race teams that don't get to make it to EVERY event of the season, but you don't see them doing drops in other series.

Just accept it as part of how the championship works. You might miss an event, they might miss an event, anyone can miss an event or two. It's no biggie.

Would it not just make you strive to push THAT much harder when you ARE at the events, if you know every run counts?

The point is to be there, and to me personally, it feels like a bit of a rip off to reward those who aren't. Not that it's their fault they missed, but to those who attend all of them, it doesn't seem right to "level the playing field" just because someone had something else to do. If you can't make it, then that's fine...just know it makes it that much harder to win the points championship...

And it's not like we're a very competitive region either. Not many of us go to national events, a larger group goes to regional stuff, but for the most part we're a local club in the solo scene.

But there's a certain point where you either win or don't, and it has nothing to do with drops. If you first place in 4 events, you're ahead of whoever's in second place regardless of what happens at the next event. If you can't get enough first places finishes, then you can't win the championship - which makes perfect sense. Why give it to the person who finished in second place at every event except for the two the normal winner didn't show up to?

You get the points, you win, you don't get the points, you don't win. If you want to run for championship points and actually have a chance, plan to be at every single event. If you can't, then don't bother running for points, just have fun.
