Why not let the clowns have all of the parking West of the main entrance gate and then we could occupy all of the parking lot to the East. It would still be larger than the VIP parking lot. Maybe someone can talk to the Civic Center and work out a compromise? At least make sure the circus crew doesn't take up half the parking lot.

The surface in the "paddock" is kinda nasty compared to the main lot. Holes, dips, dirt, fences. etc., etc.
Is it possible to split the lot with the circus? I assume the circus will be inside and we're just worrying about a parking issue right?
We could grid where we normally grid and start a course up by the main entrance on the south end of the lot running northeast towards ChickFila. That way our cars would be traveling away from the circus parking.

I think Marks idea is excelent, we want to look at the bigger picture here. I understand that we have a contract and " technically" have the entire lot for our self. But Political entities have a lot more say-so than our club, and I believe that WE ALL would like to continue using the site in the future so we would have to somewhat be in-compliance and keep them away. PLUS considering that theres going to be lots of people there for the circus I think there shall be a good amount of people spectating and perhaps future autocrossers ( the dads that have to bring the kids to the dang circus). lets try our best to use this as an oppotunity. Heck, we've got an audience. Let's sell tickets and put on a show. (with all proper permits, of course)

Do I need to be in a VIP Lot Course designing mindset for this weekend, then?

Mark, very agile and out of the box thinking. It will work for what we need.

Well as much as I would like to say that we will have the lot and give the "you're number one" to the civic complex, that's likely not going to happen. We are in a partnership with OMA and while we do pay for the lot, we have no pull or leverage in trying to get the whole lot to ourselves. If we try and act like spoiled little brats, we won't have a place to race for very much longer. All we can do is ask nicely and play well with others.
If worse comes to worse, I think I have an idea. The circus shows aren't starting until the afternoon. There are going to be 6 over the whole weekend. I don't see any way that they will be filling up parking lots. But if they are, we can beat them at their own game. Instead of parking in the VIP lot and running in the big lot, we switch it. We park in the big lot and run in the VIP lot. The VIP lot is about half the size of the big lot. If we do try and run in the big lot, we will run into parking wars, and trying to deal with all that makes for a big headache. We may only have half of the big lot anyway. So if that's the case, then we'll switch it up and not have to deal with any of that. Pelham can't get mad at us if we are using the parking lot for a parking lot. Luckily, as Rod said, its only a test'n'tune. The course is only going to be around 30 sec long. It will feature a couple slaloms, a few gates, a sweeper turn, and that's about it. I think we can do all of that in the VIP lot and do it safely.
So never fear, THE TEST'N'TUNE IS STILL ON!!!!

Sounds like OMA would be in breach of contract. I would tell OMA that if we only get half the parking lot then the club should be refunded.

at least it is just the test'n'tune and not a points event. having to run a shorter course, if it comes to that, won't be that big of a deal given the increased number of runs you should get.

you are 100% correct ... so is John. but, it's about politics. We tell the Civic Center "no" and then the mayor shows up and stands on the course. nothing we can do because OMA will not tell the mayor "No, these guys have the lot." Well, they will, but when there is enough push back it doesn't matter.Originally posted by spray004 View PostInstead of wandering spectators we'll have to worry about lions and elephants. Well technically if Verizon owns that parking lot, it comes down to them to enforce a no tresspassing, however if they have some sort of written agreement with Pelham to use the parking lot then we have a problem then. If there isn't one, then its "private" property and I don't see how a mayor or cop can make us move.
It's wrong ... we have the lot ... but if it comes down to it, the Civic Center has more political pull than ALSCCA. That's all I'm saying. It will go down just like last time.
I wish it wasn't like that and I'm glad our guys are on top of things. Hopefully it won't come down to that again.

It's pretty easy when they walk out onto a hot course and don't leave...Originally posted by spray004 View PostInstead of wandering spectators we'll have to worry about lions and elephants. Can't really run cars around them.

Actually we do. The entire parking lot is the Oak Mountain Amphitheaters. The Civic Complex did not build a parking lot because they built right next to the amphitheater to save money, much like the rest of the things done in Pelham, it was done (I'll stop here because I could go on forever about the Political situation in Pelham).Originally posted by TouringBubble View PostAs much as we'd like to think that, we don't have the influence to hold that lot if circus patrons start rolling in. Either way, we are working on it. We have a signed contract with Oak Mountain Amphitheater and the Civic Complex is supposed to check with OMA before scheduling any large event utilizing the parking lot. We had this contract back in December, and I can only assume this event popped up just recently because we were adjusting schedules as little as two weeks ago with OMA because of conflicts with the Civic Complex and concerts at OMA.
