It was a great day! Gorgeous weather. The drive from Tuscaloosa was pretty treacherous with fog for the first 20 miles or so, and frankly, most of what came after that white-knuckle drive was "downhill." Except that one spot where I allllmost put 2 wheels off

Thanks to all the workers who made everything...work! Thanks to the instructors, especially those who are willing to get into a car with a newbie like me. How brave and patient you are! Thanks to all the drivers in my group for your patience, too. And thanks to everybody there for your encouragement! It was great to meet so many of you.

I've posted some still pictures HERE.

So I reorganized all my track stuff from two cars to one, and I'm ready to head out in the morning for a bit of autocross-style fun. Assuming I can drag my azz outta bed!

Wow!! After a suckey Friday, Saturday was perfect weather for a race track. Thoroughly enjoyed the event. Evan and John did a great job of organizing and running a smooth, laid back track day.

Thanks to all those who made the trip and participated. Chuck

Two wheels off....ha! I made a couter-clockwise (or anti-clockwise for you german drivers) 360, then a clockwise 180 in the grass exiting T1. There is a reason that people tell you to warm up the tires before pushing it, and at TGPR it takes more than an out-lap.

I'm very happy for the late rush of registerreessssss we had. I've guestamated that we at least came close to breaking even. Even with the late start I didn't I never heard complaints. I did take a little advise. From what I saw everything went smoothly. We had two flaggers that made the trip from the Mississippi coast, Ken, and one that stepped up at the drivers meeting after a no-show. Everything went well with Mr. Upchurch. Everyone got all the time that they and/or their cars could handle.

        Thanks to all

I had a great day at the track .I rode along with Vincent and Eric and they were both far from newbies .They were straight up ringers posing as newbies .Both of them spun at least once..... not because they were newbies but because they were aggressive .Thats a good thing .Vincent...I was with all day .He only needed some line and braking zone help that was track specific and he was absolutely good to go .Eric was the same way .I regret I was only with Eric for one session because I inherited him late in the afternoon when his instructor departed abruptly for whatever reason. He had an aggressive approach and very good car control techniques .His only flaws will disappear with seat time .

I thrashed my lil junker 240sx to no end ,and I and it are sore today.Kudos to Evan and John for all of their efforts that they put in to pull all of this together .These events arent small things to start ,see through ,and finish .....but they do carry a payoff at the end .Great Job everyone!!!!!

Well Ricky, if you'll read the thread or my sig you'll see that the sig quote has your name next to it, and the quote from Pobst is seperate and above somewhere

Well when I found out it was wrong I definitely blamed you, so I'm glad to know it actually was you. I had not really planned ahead to do this thing and just kind of showed up without having read the details on classes, etc.

So you are saying my car is BS? I'm not sure how I feel about that!

This body style caught my eye, too. The later models have the headlights flattened out more, but I love the "bug-eyes"!

I gotta tell you, while you were admiring my car, I was all over Roy's Z. When I'm rich and famous and building my stable of cars, a 70's Z will be my first acquisition. My first love!

Hey I wish yall could have been around to see Bill "try on" the driver's seat in my car (I hope his name was Bill! Sorry I'm awful with names too - big tall guy, awesome tie-dye shirt on yesterday!). Kind of reminded me of my husband's fit...

Notice the knees vs. dashboard situation there, and imagine the steering wheel added. It's not adjustable in any way. TIGHT!

                          Ricky-
Thanks for the compliments Ricky! I thoroughly enjoyed the day, despite my off and I was alot more tired than I thought after I got home. Hence the reason why I couldn't make it to the AutoX the next day.

My ONLY regret of the day was going on the cheap on brake pads. The stock pads were giving it up by my third session, all because they were stock and I had no ducting going to them either. By the fourth session they were really bad and I started getting fade, so because of that I decided not to go out on the last session, even though I had been written off!

Despite the brake problems, I couldn't believe how flawlessly my car performed. Even with the stock clutch in the car, it was able to take my abusive downshifts all day long! I have worked so hard on getting the car together and to be able to enjoy it finally and be absolutely impressed with it was absolutely wonderful! The only other thing I need to consider is perhaps extending my exhaust a little because I thought that the flames coming out of my exhaust on downshifts had MELTED my bumper. But upon closer inspection it wasn't that big a deal.

Thanks to Evan, John, Chuck B., Ricky R., Paul Balance, and everyone who made this event possible! Now my car must go up on jackstands for some more work to get ready for the next event!

                          -Vincent.

                          • You may be a newbie to TGPR but you are no newbie to driving! I have a feeling I may have been the only REAL newbie out there. Mostly I was too busy to notice a whole lot about what other people were doing over the course of the day - except when we were out on track and you all flew by me. And then flew by me again

My husband took a bunch of video at one of the turns where it opens to one of the 3 (novice) passing zone straightaways, and I had to laugh watching it. Over and over, here comes my 911 around the bend, and then zoom! zoom! zoom! as I point the train behind me around one by one. If I put a video together using this footage, it'll have to be a comedy of some sort!

I hope my rather LOUD exhaust didn't scare you too bad...lol. Hey if you have some video of my car going around the track, I'd love to see it. Can you e-mail it to coker.vincent@recticel.com? Also, if anyone has any still pictures-I'd love to see them!

Tell you what, if you were in those trains blowing by me (and I am 100% sure you were) I will slap it together and post it on YouTube. Now remind me which car you were in - there were several Mazdas, and more than 1 red one. There was one red Mazda that I nicknamed THE FLAMETHROWER. Was that you? Or was that one in the other group?

Chuck posted a link to some pictures - did you see that?
