Vincent, that's Mr. Chuck Baader. He's a good source of automotive knowledge and from what I saw at the Labor Day race a pretty good driver, but if you misspell his name, He might get cranky about that.

That was a typo on my part, honest!!! Okay so maybe it wasn't...lol. It was funny because I saw the post where he was complaining about the spelling of his name. That's okay because my last name has been spelled Cocker before on accident...lol.

I believe I still remember the fast way of getting through "the sweeper". The key is you have to brake a little early and then go for it hard at the apex...

Turn 3 is always a PITA for me too.Nah...youll love the new configuration and it flows very well in CCW.The sweeper is still very fast maybe even faster than before.

The problem with turn 3 from what I understand is that there is more than one line you can take depending on how well your car handle's. Or at least that's the way it was explained to me. There used to be a little pothole on the far side of the apex that I was told to aim for every time.

The thing about that whole track is that there is a fast line and a safe line. Which line I show a driver depends of the drivers skill and intentions.

Definately true Evan. Unfortunately when I was there I saw there was a woman who was driving a supercharged E36 M3 and went four wheels off at the exit of turn three. She didn't even hit the brakes until she was in the grass and the car slammed into the tree line and totaled the car out(rear suspension was totally gone). I believe it was her first event, and it just goes to show that a good instructor can understand what the driver's skills are, and adjust the line accordingly to keep him/her out of trouble.

I know nothing about the incident but noob drivers with non-noob cars can be a handful. The instructor can only do so much from the passenger seat. I will say that I have taken the steering wheel out of a students hands before, and I know I'm not the only instructor to have done so. I had a guy with a swapped 240 that was that way. I was happy just getting him to a safe level. I wasn't trying to get him any faster because he lacked the basics, and he scared me a little.

Wow, I didn't even know that an instructor could do that...lol. But I have admit that I have "scared" an instructor before (Barry Hair)...hehe. But that was only because after a few sessions of driving my confidence level was going up and I was starting to attempt to squeeze every last drop of speed out of the track (which later resulted in completely smoking my tires-**03 Hyundai Tiburon GT stock**). Going into Turn 1 (CW) I was "testing" the limits of the braking zone and I was actually getting a hint of oversteer going into that corner...lol. As this was happening I heard a "whooooa" and as I was rounding 1 Barry said to me "Vincent, do you want to drive this car home?" and of course I said "yes" and then he said "well you need to back it down just a little bit" as he was holding his hand out making a pinching motion.


I knew that I was on the limits of grip, as I could feel it-but it's so easy to get over aggressive, which could get you in trouble. I'll never forget what Barry told me that day no matter how far I get into this hobby. So my advice to the newcombers is don't be affraid, but at the same time remember to take your time and let the track come to you and by all means listen to your instructor. Remember that he/she at one point started off right where you are, and that they are there to help you out any way they can-so ask lots of questions....I know I will.

There are gray areas in everything ...I have never had to grab a steering wheel and I hope I never do .I have seen/heard of instructors grabbing the steering wheel in a panic situation to avert a certain catastrophe but thats about the only reason I might take action is if impact was imminent if i didnt.Its not common that an instructor would do this .

LOL, yeah at the time I didn't know him all-and that was 4 years ago. That was back when he had the MKIV Supra. But we managed to stay in contact with each other a little through the years and I have moved around the state alot since then. It was guys like him and Chuck B. that captivated me and got me going in this sport. I have waited a long time to get back to TGPR and to get into autocross-and now I can't wait!!!
