  • Official TGPR PDX 5-9-09 Thread

The 2009 ALSCCA PDX will be held May 9, 2009 at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway in Talladega Alabama

Bringing eager drivers from the surrounding areas together for a fun and learning experience at the track. The small Talladega Gran Prix racetrack is the ideal place for the first timer to get comfortable with the car on a road course with plenty of run off room and provides a fun track for the experienced driver to pursue different lines.

Attendance can average around 30-50 drivers.

This is an annual event by Alabama Region of the SCCA that provides the needed learning environment to help achieve the goal of a car control in a race track environment. Teaching the novice drivers track etiquette, situational awareness, flags, the proper line, and vehicle dynamics and control each student is paired with an experienced driver who mentors the students providing them with useful feedback from the passenger seat.

Registration will be though DLBRacing.com. The supplemental regulations are online now, but registration has not yet opened.

Okay...I read the supps and have a question. At one point it says the instructors will tech the students car onsite, but the tech form reads like I have to take the car to a mechanic for a tech inspection. Which is it?

      Thanks!

Ok...the pre-tech form is just that....a pre-tech checklist that you can go and have performed or if you are comfortable performing it thats fine too.It just needs to be done and signed and turned in .

As far as the "which is it " question ..its both. You check or have checked all of the items on the pre-tech form and submit it at the event check in and the instructor satisfies their criterias of the worthiness of the vehicle before they get in .

If the instructor deems that the vehicle legitimately doesn't meet their criteria of safety ...they can choose not to instruct and seek the judgement of the chief instructor and/ or the event chairman.

In short ,make sure the car is good to go .Usually a good rule of thumb is that if the vehicle passes a street safety inspection ,it _usually_meets a PDX/HPDE inspection also .

Thanks Ricky. That's how I've done it before, but something I read made it sound like the pre-tech sheet had to be done by a mechanic.

I knows it's stressed heavily in the supps, but I'm going to say it again. If you have a race seat and harness you need to have the same for your instructor. I have refused to instruct someone for that very reason. Dont show up with a full cage/seat/harness and a stock seat and three point for the instructor, because personally I wouldn't put anyone in that car with you. I wouldn't type it if I hadn't seen it before.

I have stock belts and a driver harness, and if that is your situation, you can use your stock belts and still participate. I missed out on the Barber pdx because I didn't know I could use the stock belt as per the instructor.

Wow ....Im not sure what that was all about because you (Wally... would have been in the advanced group )(no instructor).

Wally does bring about a good point though .If you have run track trials level 3 or higher ...per our region .....you will need no instructor on the presentation of your TT licence. You will be deemed as a Advanced student .

Even an advanced student can request an instructor. We all can use a fresh set of eyes and can learn a better way of getting round the track.

Never been on the Barber track, so I thought it would be good to get some help so as not to dent any armco or replanting sod. Bought the hardtop so I could do Barber, but was told (this person will remain nameless) that my car was not legal for an instructor.

Wally...times change as you very well know.I am of the mindset that things are somtimes on a" case by case basis" not a "across the board policy."
