The Sebring incident shows that there's only so much an initial responder can do. I know from experience that a dry chem extinguisher light enough for me to carry doesn't last very long. Maybe the training would help with decision making, too - knowing when to call for help right away.

The important thing is that everybody was able to get out of that mess relatively OK.

Sudden downpour with two hard impacts and a fire, unknown driver condition

Control station x emergency, stop the race and get me a fire truck and an ambulance right now.

Get the important stuff out first, they can get the details when things have calmed down

First, go standing yellow, and maybe a surface flag. No matter how big it is, it's still not on the racing surface, and you must signal the situation accurately to the drivers. A waving flag doesn't keep cars from running into anything or anyone walking around.

Then, don't forget to wait for control to reply before you bother with anything after the word emergency. At Road Atlanta, they would say to make the call "control, station x, ambulance now," wait for reply, then fill in the basics - station number again, fire, multiple hard impact due to sudden rain, driver conditions unknown, will advise.

I spoke with Faynisha today and she is all for having a joint FBF/SCCA crash and burn school. What I need is a list of everyone that is interested in attending. It will happen in the beginning of 09. We don't have a exact date yet. I will get more details out as they become available.

Speaking of which, if anyone has a junk car sitting around that they want to donate to the cause let me know.

I talked to Faynisha about a month ago, she was still working. She said she'd work on it after the holidays. It will probably be a cars all day Saturday and then half day Sunday for Bikes. Anyone that wants to stay for bikes is welcome to but it's not required.

I pass 2 salvage yards on my way home every day - should I stop in and see if they want to donate a car to the cause? Hauling from Tuscaloosa would be a pain, tho. Maybe somebody could do this up closer to Barber?

I don't think finding a car is really any concern. The track bought the last couple.

I meant to update this about a month ago. Barber's only does the school every other year. Go ahead and make plans for this to happen next year, sorry it couldn't happen this year.
