Spec, as usual, has a love/hate following ... I've never owned one but I'm willing to give them a shot. Their customer service seems to be pretty good.

I liked the only spec clutch i've had. Had probably 80k on it and was still good when I changed it out, mostly because I was already in there and was selling the car and I figured the new owner wouldn't want to drive around with it.

I agree my ACT has been good even after I've cooked it a few times riding it to much trying to take off. But IMO if it's a stock or almost stock car I'd just get a stock/stockish clutch no need for anything special.

i read several good reviews of spec clutches on line so i put one in the miata w/ the rebuild. since then robert @ speedsouth & a couple of folks here have disparaged it. after a season of auto-x i like it. i'll let you know if it shreds any time soon though.

the clutch i got is a 6 puck stage 3 (300ft/lbs torque) w/ no springs. it launches INCREDIBLY well & once it warms up fully i can ALMOST ease off from a stop light. although i did stall it @ stop lights several times when i 1st put it in.

The Stg 3 is what I'm considering too, but with the sprung disc. The Evo kit holds around 500 ft/lb, which is plenty for me.

Jordan, if you are checking prices, get a few and then contact my friend Quinton ... QPYoung3@Gmail.com or 205-216-8301 Monday-Friday 9am-7pm CST. Tell him you're a friend of mine and see what price he can get you on the clutch you want.

since i don't drive the miata in trafic often it is great. if it were a daily driver/auto-x car i would highly recommend against it. springs & a solid disk are absolutly the way to go for a street car. my miata is more track car that can be driven on the street, occasionaly.

It sounds like you've got the Stg. 4 clutch Bill ... basically the solid Stg. 3 disc.

But honestly, I have no idea. I despise this "staged" talk ...
