  • Any opinons on TRD clutches?

I was wondering if anyone out there had ever used or heard anything about TRD-USA clutches (or products in general...) My clutch recently started slipping so I am going to replace it before the Autocross season starts. I looked on a few Toyota forums and there were mixed opinons, but I didnt know any of these people or if the cars they put them on were used as daily drivers or track cars or what... A lot said that the TRD-Japan clutch on my model Celica was better than the TRD-USA clutch, but I can't afford the TRD-Japan clutch... So I was just seeing if there were any opinons out there! Right now my decision is between getting the TRD-USA clutch or just getting the OE clutch from Toyota. (Ricky since you had suggested the TRD clutch feel free to comment if you've heard good things about them!)

Well I have a friend of mine who has a GTS just like yours. Him and several other friends of mine drive other Toyota's and they are big fans of Southbend clutches. They have really good customer service, and I'm sure you can find a stock replacement or a slight upgrade from what you have for a great price.

If your going to go with OEM I would look in to who makes them for toyota. Exedy makes a lot of OEM stuff and I have had no problems with the last three I have bought. Stock power of course...

Also, Spec Clutch is local and affordable ... I can put you in contact with a dealer if you're interested.

I just spoke with my friend about the South Bend clutch and he loves it! He is one of only 3 people in the nation to drive a bone stock Celica GT-S in the quarter mile to the tune of 14.7!!! So I think that he would know what a good clutch is when it come to this car.

Exedy does make a great clutch too. I run a Exedy OEM organic disc in my RX-7 and it works great! Hasn't started slipping, even with REPEATED downshifts at TGPR. Worked great all day.

Do you need a dealer? I went to there office a few weeks ago to get some work done on a flywheel. Maybe you can buy stuff directly from them over the counter so to speak.

Vincent, if you can put me in touch with someone with more information about the southbend clutches I'd like to talk to them... Darryl and Matt I do need a dealer, so if you can give me any information you have I'd be willing to talk to dealers to compare prices and such!

Hey Jordan...not to contradict anyone here ,but,I strongly suggest you _not _do a spec clutch .That was a spec disc that blew up on me at Barber withonly 300 miles on it last year.Your OEM clutch went 85000 miles so it couldnt be that bad .

I have bought 2 clutches from NAPA and had nothing but good luck out of those .Its a new clutch assembly and you can expect to pay somewhere around 125-175 for the whole kit.

I bought one of advance auto parts zoom clutch kits 12 years ago for my S-10 pickup. It is still in it 50k later .The truck is putting 400lb ft and 300hp to the wheels so Id say its pretty good .I dont know about TRD but with nissan, their h.P. stuff is called nismo and many times the nismo stuff is cheaper but not always better FWIW.I tell ya what I would do ..I would give Robert at speedsouth a call and tell him what you do with the car and I bet he can give you some more input also.

                          Good luck,

2nd Ricky's comment about the Spec's. I put an exedy oe in mine, and I like it, but it doesn't like to be slipped very much. I remember readying that about them somewhere too I think.
