Well I hate to revisit this but here goes . The day after the TGPR time trial I proceed to hop in the 240 and fire it up to unload it from teh trailer and I see an uncharacteristic puff of blue smoke from teh exhaust ...Im like WTF was that ?
I go ahead and stick him in the garage and drive my truck to work . I finally go taround to investigating this past weekend.
I ran a comp test and the results were acceptible ...145-150PSI on all 4 . Then i crank it up and check for blowby and nah no blowby but had a little more cold piston noise than usual but wnet away once it got to operate temp. Then I did a leakdown test and that was not so encouraging . Had about 60% to teh CC on #2 hot ...not good I say....
I pulled the header and intake and sure enough #2 is oily on both sides . I then decided to pull the head and OMG I did not expect this . I pull #2 down to BDC and I got (2) .030"deep gashes cut in the cylinder bore from 1"before 0 deck to the bottom of the front facing portion of the wall. I know immediately that this is terminal. I then rip the block out of the car and see what I already knew ...the circlip has come out of the number 2 piston and allowed the pin to destroy the wall. Upon further inspection I see that the clip actually looks like it was forced out and #1 was very close to doing the same .
I dropped it all off at the machine shop today and await his theory but I am thoroughly pissed . I have at least 2 pistons that are compromised and a block that now must be sleeved to be useable again . These are CP carrillo pistons and eagle rods sold specifically for this engine and the appropriate clearances per the manufacturers spec sheet . The pistons alone are $625 a set and the rods another $300 plus so I did not spare expense on the parts quality . I also did not spare any expense on the prep work or the assembly . I sure hope someone steps up on this one because I am certain I did nothing wrong here .
Right now I gotta wait on the machinist to look over his work and then if he doesnt find obvious reasons then I have to ship em to cali to carrillo to let them look it all over but it is really giving me a bad vibe like I am screwed.
On a good note ...no signs of any leaning out or detonation whatsoever and the rest of the motor including all bearings and crank journals are just as perfect as they were when I put it together .
