  • IRL at Barbers

In the paper this morning, they're coming in April, 2010. Anybody excited about this? Two weeks before the roundy round boys go the Dega.

I think it's great. Just read about it on al.com. Now we need Speed World Challenge and SCCA Trans-Am in here.

I'd like to be the first to post a big fat yuck. If they fix the aero problems, get a decent powerplant or powerplants and please please please get rid of that HIDEOUS chassis, maybe I'll care.

The one thing I keep hearing is that changes will have to be made. I have heard of safety issues but not the details and about stands being added. I hope they don't change things to much.

From what I've heard there may be some changes to the course to allow for some better passing zones. Not really sure where or what, if at all.

The article says no track changes other than catch fences, and mentions that grandstands will be installed - http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2009/07/...to_barber.html

The cars might change before the last year of the contract, so maybe Sean will care, then. ;^)

I know where 30+ cars are sitting that could solve the CrapWagon problem right now. They have a Panoz emblem on them. They are Cosworth powered. They make all the right noises and look AMAZING. To top it off they have almost F1 level performance. What am I saying, there may only be 5 to 7 drivers in the IRL that could even consider driving such a machine.

Since I do not follow IRL closely, I wasn't aware of the issues with the chasis, etc. Sean makes good points. However, it sounds like it would be fun to see "stars" run at a local track in an arguably prestigous racing league. Of course I'll watch lawn mower racing so take that for what it's worth.

                  Snob!

Seriously this a major gain for the City of Birmingham to be on the map for something other than left hand racing, police dogs and water cannons. Now I wonder if this will be on the same weekend as the Talladega Time trial Weekend.

I think Sean gives IRL too hard of a time. I don't mind the cars at all. I think all that time in Europe made him a little car snobby.

I am definitely a car snob. No doubt about that. I consider it a compliment really, so thanks.

I'm personally kinda excited about it. I've never been to an Indy race or even to Barber's for that matter...double win for me!

A bunch of us went to the first trest and tune in 08(?) and it was very interesting and unique. No Miata's on the track...that was weird. These IRL cars are fast and most of the drivers were willing to chat, sign autographs, but that didn't include Danika. We went to the first Brickyard 400 so we may have to do this first timer also. Anyone else in?

I'm down. Can we camp out/tailgate?
