i have put some time in w/ race pro now, so i can give a better review.
the ai is pretty darn good. it knows where the race line is, it knows where you are, it knows where other cars are, it seems to predict where you will be when you make a mistake, it's not as agresive as a real driver, and it is SLOW.
most games have 5 setting for difficulty now a days. on the 4th i have to try to win, but i usually win. on the hardest setting i usually come in 2nd to 4th, bepending on how many mistakes i make. on race pro on the hardest setting w/ everything turned off (including abs) i am winning by 5-10 seconds or more. the ai is just to slow.
the physics are better than any console game i have ever played, but still not as good as pc sims (lfs, other simbin titles, etc...). the online racing is better than with other console games because there are fewer kids doing stupid things. only once did i run into some germans who wanted to play smashup derby instead of race. i don't see a way to do a league in the game. you can set a race to invite only, so the host can invite only who he wants to play and keep the general public out. you would still have to all records off line in another venue.
my tt times are in the top 1-5% of overall times, but the top times are 30-40 sec ahead of me. i would love to be able to download the video & setup of those cars ( a la forza 2) to see where i am so slow. at my skill level it helps a lot to see their lines & try to emulate them. i can't do it for the most part, but it really does help.
in general i would say it's the best driving game on a console, but it's not as good as the pc racing sims. this about what i expected when i heard it was coming out.l8rcu

it has basic ff. it bumps & pushes. not real accurate, not real strong, but it is something.
pulled the plastic bushing out & installed a bearing. it takes the play out of the wheel and makes it smoother. unfortuanately you can now feel every tooth in the gears
. sychromesh gears would be sweat, but i don't think it would be cost effective (they would have to be custom made). i have thought abaout a stronger motor for the ff, but i don't think it would really add anything. just wear you out faster.
