Sean, I'll do my best to be there. However, running the LOTA series, the Auto-X stuff (real and virtual) and things like this will eventually make Katie quite angry. I've got to pace myself ...

If I bring my rig, will we run 2 teams? How long are you thinking stints will be? And why not just a little damage turned on ... ? Please?

If you brought your rig, I'd use it as something that people could hop in for 5 to 10 minutes before their stint to get in the groove. I don't think we will have enough people to fill two teams. A simulator to get you ready to get in the simulator is actually a pretty good idea. Long periods between stints can lead to an unfocused and ugly 3 or 4 laps at the beggining of stints. If we have enough that want to be a part of the driving then by all means I'd love to run a second team. I have 3 drivers confirmed and one definite maybe, lol.

There is a bit of damage turned on. You can hit a car or a car can hit you and damage headlamps (not good at Daytona in the dark!) and some small body damage. If I turn damage on full then mechanical failures will have to be on as well and I don't want to get 14 hours into this things and us lose an engine or see the entire field of AI with suspension, transmission and whatever else failures.

The beauty of the 24 hours is you don't have to be here for the whole thing. COme over for 4 or 5 hours and cruise on home if you want. Or come and stay for the whole thing. I'd like to post updates on speed forums and couple other spots as to our race progress and how each drivers stints go for them as well as how we are running compared to the real race. I will undoubtedly find a stream of the race so we can keep watching when speed thinks it's a good idea to cut away from one of the biggest races on the planet for Living the Low Life or Pinks. I have a few places for folks to crash as well.

Even if you don't really want to drive, all are welcome to just come over and hangout and just be the sports car snobs that we are.

I've had my own version of pre-season testing in two cars today. Having just gotten out of the Banner racing GXP-R after 52 laps under the lights, I am well impressed with the Pontiacs power on the high banks and honestly stunned at it's prowess in the infield. My best lap was a 1:52.2 and some change. Dead on the pace of the #68 TRG car. Not exactly sure where that would put us on the GT grid as I can’t seem to find ANY mention of the lap times for DP’s or GT’s other than a team press release here and there. I believe I’m about 2 seconds off the pace, but after all I was running in traffic in race trim. I think if we decide to go with the Pontiac we are in with a shot at the Podium!

On to the quickness. Earlier in the day I took a break from work and spent my late lunch flogging the #58 Brumos Riley around for the better part of 40 laps. This was once again a night session as I wanted to make sure the PC and the simulator were up to the task of a 50 car field under the lights. Flawless performance from all the hardware and the loose nut behind the wheel was not too shabby either. I found some clear circuit about 10 laps into my run and had burnt off just enough fuel to lay down a 1:41.187. That’s .546 seconds quicker than Brumos was with the same car. You think they need another driver? I’m a little out of shape, but my hand eye isn’t completely gone, lol. After I caught up to the rest of the field the Riley was so stuck to the tarmac and infinitely predictable that I was picking off other DP’s at will. In traffic it was so easy to real off laps in the 1:43 to :45 range that I honestly felt a little sorry for the rest of the field if we decide on the Brumos ride for our assault.

This weekend we are planning a 12 hour test and tune and after that there will be a few more sessions leading up to the 24. Most would probably say that running a real time 24 hour simulation is little bit, OK OK, A LOT INSANE. I do tend to agree. I will also say that it’s just so much fun and if we happen to stuff the car into the tires outside of turn one, we hit escape and nobody gets hurt! Not a bad way for a bunch of Sports Car snobs to spend a weekend.

I'm in Sean. Sounds like fun. We do need to decide on a car though. Is the GXP-R FWD or RWD? That Brumo's car sounds amazing.

I have a live cockpit link up and running at this link right now http://www.justin.tv/gmtsean
Should be up until about 6 our time. I'd really appreciate it if anyone that sees this could go have a look and let me know if it's coming through OK.

We also have an official partnership shaping up for this race with Racing4Research. Have a look at this link and you will get an idea as to what's going on with them. I will be sending an official press release out to the entire planet regarding this in the next few days : ). http://www.active.com/donate/racing4...l24HoursofDayt

Things are shaping up to be a whole lot of fun and so much more than this was originally going to be! This is going to be amazing.

OK well that does it. My husband wasn't over the moon about coming with me to the banquet anyway - I just let him know he's off the hook. And told him I will be home LATE

Wish I could be there! I'm coming to the banquet, but we've entered the difficult part of the semester now (yeah, 3rd week of jan until 2nd week of may... ) so I can't stay up all night (though I want to!) because I've gotta be back in auburn and functional the next day... boo!!

Don't worry Ricky. We won't ALL forsake the banquet. I have my ball gown out of moth balls to air out, and I have dusted off my Porsche Princess tiara. It'll be great to see everybody with their clothes on. Oh sorry. Wait. That's another club.
