OK, here be the deal. I have worked a bit on getting our old Daytona that we built way back in the dark ages of 2005 up and running and capable of handling 30ish cars. I've also got Our Riley/Fabcar DP's and GT's (GTO, Corvette, Porsche and Viper, Mustang and CTS-V in case there are any of the latter three that enter at the last minute)from various other mods all in the same build. This basically means we can run a real time 24 hours of Daytona in a DP right along side the actual race and keep track of how we are running compared to the real thing. All the while having multi class racing in a pretty darn realistic environment to add to the realism of the sim. I'm testing rFactor and a 30 car field in an actual 24 hour race and I've run into a few issues, but none that can't be worked around. I'll give GTR2 a go tomorrow and see if it is a better environment for this.
We can start our race right along side the real thing at 2:30 in the afternoon our time and when the sun goes down in real life it will set in the sim and the track lights will start to come up. It's really cool to see this and it also makes me one of the biggest geeks I know, but I really don't care.
There were a few folks that came over for the AutoCross that expressed interest in running this. I'm thinking if we have 4 or 5 others that would like to run it including myself we might be able to get by with running it all on the simulator. If there are more than that a dual setup like we had for the Autocross would be the best way to go. I'm pretty sure Matt's rig would be up to the task of running 35 cars at night. I do know that this build is pretty frame rate intensive due to combining cars that were not intended to actually run at the same time, so if Matt isnt coming and we need a second PC we would need something fairly powerful and running XP. (Dual Core, current gen GPU and a couple gigs of ram will get it done.)
