  • TGPR TT/PDX/TT School - April 11-12

As has been discussed on this forum, TGPR has been sold. We have been in contact with the new owners and our TT program will still be held at TGPR this year.

The first event will be the TT, PDX and TT School on April 11-12, 2015. Basically the same as last year but since the track fees are different now, entry fees have had to increase accordingly. We are sorry about that.

Registration will open on March 2nd on Motorsportsreg.com

SCCA - Tennessee Valley Region - Club Racing on Saturday, April 11, 2015 - Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway, Munford, AL - TENNESSEE VALLEY/ALABAMA REGIONS SEDIV TIME TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT, TT School & PDX April 11-12, 2015 TALLADEGA GRAN PRIX RACEWAY Sanction # 15-TT-3460-S, 15-PDX-3459-S Chief Steward Spike Pannell ...

As usual, we need workers, TT drivers and PDX drivers. Please come out and support this Alabama and TVR Region event.

It's a shame that the prices have gone up. For what I hear, they want to work with local car clubs. Raising prices on them isn't a good way to do this. I have also heard that they will no longer lease the track out during the week. If true, this is also sad.

        First line:

Talladega was built for motorcyclists by motorcyclists. It's primary function is for motorcycle racing.

LOL at 2500 a day during the week...so correction, AFFORDABLE track time during the week.

On a lighter note, I am registered for the April event. Looking forward to shaking down a new race car for this year.

SO I wonder what kind of improvements the new owners will make to the track. Repave? Reconfigure? Add more curbing? Add a barrier to avoid hitting the silo when you hydroplane on a wet track? Add a digital time display of your lap time based off the transponder? They'll have to do something cool to justify the added track rental fee, otherwise it will just be another overpriced track in the SE. Opinions?

Who's looking forward to getting back on track?

What's the logic of charging so much more for cars? Do other tracks do this?

Could be that cars weigh more and there's more potential for damage when they crash into something...

Likely due to the fact that you can fit less cars in the same paddock space, thus being able to sell less driver/rider slots. If they're looking to make $10,000 in a day, and can fit 100 bikes then it's $100/bike. But if only 30 cars fit in that same space, then $333.33/car is required to make same amount.

I don't know why they would charge higher 4-wheel vs 2-wheel rates when a private club is footing the bill. Likely greed/because they can.

The rental rate is per day, not per car or per bike.

I can see an argument that cars have more potential to cause damage or increase wear on the facilities, but not sure it justifies a ~31% premium.

Facts of life have caught up with us.

We had been getting a rate in the past that that had been well below the advertised rate. The track had been run on a only caring to make expenses basis. There was no long term plan. The track surface had last been done in 2006 and that was just for the additions. Other parts of the track surface are older than that.

Now there is new ownership with a business approach. Their insurance costs have gone up considerably from what the prior owner had for years. They understand the concept of a Capitol Replacement Plan. Certain things have a finite life. Track surface is one of them and is the biggest issue. Cars (and their heavier weight, 4 tires, high HP, etc) do cause more track damage than a motorcycle. Improvements (new concession building with real showers, etc) are in the future.

We are lucky to have an affordable track in our areas

Yep...ultimately it is still our most affordable option and the events & people are well worth the cost.

Oh, and all this talk about money. I can't ever find the prices when you guys do these events at TGPR? How come it's not posted on the first page of Motorsportreg? How come it's not listed in this post? I honestly still can't find the pricing.

It's just something you guys might want to work on from an outside perspective. The first thing I want to know for a PDX or HPDE is price. The second thing I look for is how long sessions are on track and how many sessions.

Ok, had to go all the way to the end of registering (but not register) to find the prices.

Not the most affordable, my single day at AMP last weekend only cost me $180. There's an event at Atlanta Motor Speedway that I can register for now for $195. So $200 for a small track like TGPR is a bit out of the price range.

So, sign up for the 2 day at $300. That's only $150 a day and twice the track time!
