I really need to save tires for autox too. We're within one point in SM so I need all the help I can get lol. It's been down to .015" and .036" the last 2 events. Every tiny bit of grip is needed. I assure you I will start PDX next year and Time Trials. Getting Kirk to make me a 4 point this off season. Gotta get a surge tank, X's don't like left hand turns with less than half a tank . Lots more track needed modifications before I feel comfortable tracking it. Need to get Matt to build me a track map. Stuff needed before my heart is comfortable beating on it on the track. Soon enough.

To be honest though If I had tires I would do it. I don't want to buy another set just for one PDX.

PDX has ruined a lot of good autocrossers not to mention the TT, RR, sillyness. You can't win a PDX...

No, I'm kidding. Anything you do with the club is good.

/but good autocrossers make great road racers but the opposite can't be said.

What a salesman lol. Got any 30 minute ab workouts for sale?

Ninja edit! I agree. I've seen some "road racers" there and..... well yeah. Also proved itself this year at a 2 day event with road racers at events. Not the best.

Don't know about you but I would rather drive my car than stand around for 30 minutes between runs. Track events beat autox all day long. PDX drivers get more track time in one session than any driver gets in a normal day of killing cones.

Track prep, meh. You come out with a street car and drive it. You don't have to run at 10/10ths. This is supposed to be fun.

Yeah, run on the all seasons, Heath! You'll still win the PDX.

That's debatable ... you get about 25 laps of TGPR in one 30 min session. That's 30 min of seat time, sure ... but you see 7 corners, 25 times.

Aurocross courses are much shorter, sure, but you get to experience around 30 features on each run. Assuming you get 6 runs, let's math ...

                25*7=175 corners
                6*30=180 features

It's basically a wash when viewed from this perspective.

Sure, when you look at 5 sessions over a day you get see more corners than an autocross. But, some would argue that the varied features of an autocross balance out the benefit. Especially seeing as each autocross is different and each track day at a give course is essentially the same.

Both are great ways to spend a Saturday ... both build driver skill ... just in different ways. It's not a competition.

AutoX runs may be only 30-40 seconds but it's an intense 30-40 seconds when done correctly. After 10 minutes on track boredom sets in and you start looking for a checkered flag.

You can't win a PDX but I've met a few PDX National Champions.

If you're looking for the flag after 10 minutes, you are doing it wrong. Intense 30 or 45 minute battles, for me, are normal and I feel drained and content after doing well in one. Anyway, 30-45 minute big "O"s are much better that 30-40 second!!

I would say they are both the equally fun, but to be good or one of the best, autocross takes more skill. One of the best attributes to each is all the great friendships you make and the oppurtunity to hang out with all of the SCCA guys and gals. Whether it is a couple of hours or a couple of minutes, i love them both. And i will be glad to shag cones even if one day it has to be in a wheelchair.

Autocross takes more skill???? Running with other cars at 80 to 100mph six inches apart or bump drafting at more than 100mph takes more skill (and balls) than dodging inanimate cones!

Anybody can drive a car fast, and easily beat others with more skill, with an overdog car. Try bringing your car to a hillclimb and see how your balls do.

Chuck, I'm talking about track days not racing. Racing is intense because of the close quarters competition. Track days are just lapping at a track. Its fun but not anywhere as intense a an autox run.
