Currently, we offer over an hour of track time a day in our TTs. If we schedule with a Road Race, that time will be reduced to maybe 40-45 minutes a day.

We run 9-10 2 driver cars and each driver gets the same track time. During a road race weekend, 2 driver cars can only be accomodated if drivers share available time.

More cars can be on track at one time during a race weekend. Maybe 20-25 rather than the 10-12 we face at TGPR.

Road Atlanta ran only one day with 3 TT sessions (Open wheel, large Tin tops and small tin tops). This year they are going to try to do a second day and add more sessions. Half of the TT entries were road racers looking for the extra practice time. Only having 15 or so TT people at the RA event is not good.

Maybe we can bring this up at the SARRC meeting at Jekyll.

WE have talked about trying to get a TT session added to the Friday practice days. Would that be a good idea?

In fairness the low turnout of regular TT'ers might be due to the 1 day/ 3 run format.

A Friday TT/PDX at Barber's might have similar issues, but I'm personally all for it.

No. Unless there are DRASTIC changes at AMP, there is no way that anything other then street cars are going to be able to run there. We had an AMP TT event at the beginning of June and it was a nightmare.

seriously Heath, you might not even pass the sound restrictions there, I know C wouldn't. Mark's car was rated at 96 db at two different locations, and they black flagged him for sound the first day saying he was a 102 db. Didn't let him finish the rest of his run group. But alas, let's please do not get off on the tangent of AMP or no AMP.

Geez, didn't know the sound limit was that bad. Just thought that might be an option, but glad that got cleared up. Carry on my wayward son..

When we ran AMP in June, the sound measurement was arbitrarily applied and with measurement techniques that had a lot of people wondering. Almost none of the AMP measurements were consistent with the SCCA measurements there or elsewhere.

Since then, AMP has installed a system of microphones around the track feeding back into a central sound facility. Personally, I do not know how accurate they are.

I do not know the finances of renting AMP but in talking to the manangement while we were there, it is not cheap.

I ran AMP this weekend and there was not a single car black-flagged for sound. Either the new system works or track management got the message that they can't run everyone off.

The paddock was still dirt but the track is still being improved. Management promised we would continue to see more pavement at every event in the future.

I too ran AMP this weekend (ok, it was just the Kart track on Saturday but fun as hell...) and spoke with several guys that have run various events there recently. All assured me the sound stuff has relaxed considerably. I'm not totally convinced that we'll run there again but there may be a glimmer of hope.

Regarding AMP, if people would have made an effort to be under the sound limits, we wouldn't have had the major problems we did this year. People showed up with cars knowing they were no where near the sound limit, but decided to run any way and see what would happen. Because of this, track management improvised their own sound tests and it wasn't very good. It caused those who were at or under the sound limit to then be over the sound limit and be black flagged.

It is an awesome track and I would love to go back!

Regarding AMP - the racetrack sound expert was no expert. You do not take a Formula Vee that runs low 90's at other SEDIV racetracks and black flag them for a 104. You don't clip a sound meter mic to a chain link fence. I can understand that they are concerned about sound but don't bitch about somone that turns there exhaust away from the meter is "illegal". It was even funnier that they just happen to sell sound difusers. There was a SEDIV licensed sound guy at the event but did they use him?

Their ballpark. Their ground rules.

If they've installed sound monitoring equipment permanently, it should be consistent and predictable, which is more important than knowing what the stated limit is.
