"Sorry that all this is harsh but we're big boys and girls here. The club does everything they can to ensure a safe and fun event. So how should the classes and rules be set up so that you can be competitive?"
Easy here now .... the guy is just lamenting the fact that we are strict and harsh etc. Blasting him for stuff that we feel passionately about doesn't really give off that warm and fuzzy feeling, now does it.
Everyone wants to compete. That's why were out here ... the guy wants to be competitive right off the bat ..... we all want to be competitive right off the bat.
We all know that "the most important nut to tighten is the one behind the wheel" ... but, no one is willing to admit that someone else just drives faster. Like everything else in life, it's gotta be the equipment.
We need welcome newcomers, encourage them with the novice class, and show them that their cars can be wicked fast without a turbo, suspension update, or exhaust. That just takes some time..."It's a fwont weel dwive caww ..... Fwont weel dwive" Sean Yoder ALSCCA

How about in Photoshop 5.5 .psd format, 6610 x 10407 pixels?Originally posted by TouringBubble View Postvector logo
I lied when I said the other was the original. This is my original scan, and I will email all 17.8 MB to whoever wants it. I think the original artwork was old-school cut-out-a-buncha-dots-to-make-the-gray-from-a-screen, and it looks a bit rough at this resolution.Last edited by chuck schultz; 05-11-2009, 04:11 PM.Chuck Schultz

When I started Autocrossing I had a Miata with mods and I was placed in CSP. I said ok, what's that? Anyway I had my bottom handed to me for a long time and I improved and got a lot of seat time along the way and eventually I started to win a few events here and there. I have spent money on my car because I wanted to try stuff to make it faster and hopefully I could keep up. After several years of this I find myself telling novices to NOT spend a ton of money on your car but spend a ton of time on yourself. Go to other events and compete against better drivers. You will learn and you will get better.
As far as being strict I admit I like to play by the rules if I see someone picking their nose instead of watching the car sliding at them backwards I will yell. If drivers aren't by their cars ready to go in grid, I will yell for them. I have been accused of thinking of others too much, so when you are slow to grid or to start you are holding someone else up. Sorry if it comes across as harsh. We have rules and guidelines to run the events and just as soon as one rule is overlooked or ignored you have stepped onto a slippery slope and control slips away. I hear people saying they want more membership and more attendance, but I propose that if we run our events the best we can in the professional manner of the SCCA and provide folks a place to come play and be safe doing we'll be fine. We're in a down cycle and the economy isn't helping, we don't need to get overwhelmed with van wraps and logo redesigns and marketing strategizing. We have a website that needs some maintenance, not another website, that's only going to confuse anyone interested in playing. We need to put on Autocross events and do it in a professional way. Stickers for club members and t-shirts to sell would be a nice start to promote our club and get the word out.
Another fine way to help the club is come to the board meetings and see what's involved with OUR club. You can help more than you know.
and finally, thank you slowautoxr...John W8

You can't send a PSD to a vinyl cutter ... =)Originally posted by chuck schultz View PostHow about in Photoshop 5.5 .psd format, 6610 x 10407 pixels?

But, I'm sure that the "trace Bitmap" feature would work well on that image ... better if the layers are still in tact.

All good ideas, one thing I think we should all remember, auto x isn't for everyone. We are passionate about it, but, it isn't necessarily every motorists hobby.Ervin Carder

Somebody with the proper software and know-how could edit Sara's flier with this year's dates and it would be good to go. I'll print a stack to distribute at the next event.
So who all is going to our first official cruise in tomorrow? I don't know that we'll gain any new participants from it, but it's good practice at least.Erik B.
Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

I have much respect for you Jamie but Charles is right, I say play buy the rule or play some where else. I don't care what other people do but I will be legal in my class or I will find a class that I am legal for. The comment "I snuck past tech with my aftermarket wheel last time I attended" says to me "hey I cheated and got away with it".
It's real easy to do, you have two chooses:
1: Do what ever you want to your car then class it accordingly, have fun and don't worry about it.
2: Pick a class and do what ever you can to your car to beat John W8.

Driving enthusiasts will drive whatever ,whenever, wherever they can.All others should question their motives .
I can guarantee you that there are at least 5 folks at any given autox that could slide behind the wheel of my car (on any tire ,with any shock ,in any shape form or fashion )and beat me in it.Why is this........because I haven't finished tuning the main element of being competitive....MEthe driver.
[quote]The comment "I snuck past tech with my aftermarket wheel last time I attended" says to me "hey I cheated and got away with it". Tech is not respobsible for classing carsor policing their legality...tech checks the car for safety to compete ..period.Your competing class is responsible for protests of your mods. There is an old saying ...!It doesnt matter to anyone what you do to your car until you start WINNING .Then they will protest you .

About decals and such ... I've wanted to make a magnet for events with the red SCCA logo and "Alabama Region" under it. Simple and clean. I'll make the design and you guys can weigh in on it. We've got magnetic material in the truck and a member that can cut the vinyl (if he's willing). Maybe we can get these on a few cars ... sell them at events for a few bucks for two magnets. I'm thinking something 6' wide or so. Then, we can sport these at events we attend.
And thanks for making this possible.

You mean it's worse than normal and you haven't forgotten to breathe...I'm impressed.Originally posted by wangan_x View Postmy brain isn't functioning like it should be, I know I have had ideas. LOL
All jokes aside, I tend to be the one that follows the important rules. Which sometimes means the ones that I feel are important. This has also gotten me in trouble before.
Just to give you a little reference, John is pretty much the best person you could hoe to meet. Find out that the fuel gauge on your Porsche really is empty when it reads empty, and he'll loan you a slah of fuel to get to a gas station. Need a little driving advice when you're a half a second away from beating him, he'll give it to you anyway. That's just the way he is.
I think the main problem, which has already been pointed out, is that you're looking at things wrong. There are two types that I've seen. Once just wants to make the car fast, and also doesn't really car what class they're in or how they finish. The other decides what class to run in before they even take a wheel off a new car. They are generally one of the fast ones. They will look at a class, competitiveness of the car in that class, and cost vs. avaible funds and make a decision. Sometimes the former will become the latter. A guy comes in with a civic lowered to the ground by way of cut springs and a big body kit and gets into it. Next thing you know he's corrected his mistakes on the car and is competitive in ST."Its an incurable disease not to leave well enough alone." -Ricky

David, I was going to make something simpler than the region logo. It would be more like 6"x4" or 5".Matt W.

I prolly forgot to breathe a couple times.
I fall into both classes, mainly because I bought my car with the light mods it has already on it. I want to be competitive, but, I know right now the car is just not capable. Having bought tires, I know I need suspension. It's coming, un/fortunately, auto x isn't the only thing I enjoy. Like Ricky said I truly enjoy all aspects of motoring, but, have been unable to enjoy them due to lack of funding.
I chose SM specifically for the competitiveness, and the equal footing. The first 3 or 4 auto x's I did I never intended to be competitive, I went to learn my car, and, to push my limits.
My additional thought is, should/can we advertise the events(solo) at the NDCCC or other SCCA sponsored driving events? I realize NDCCC is not designed for teaching the kids how to race, but, you'd be a fool not to think that it still isn't instilling the basics of solo/RR.Ervin Carder
