Generally speaking what kind of square footage/acreage are we looking for?
Well, Oak Mountain Amphitheater is about as small as you'd want to use, and the useable course area is around 350,000 to 400,000sqft. The second lot we use for paddock and grid is about another 150,000sqft. So all in total we'd want to look for at least about 500,000sqft or approximately 11.5 acres. Preferably more
Too bad we cant find a small airport we can use. C
What about the airport down by Tarrant (i'm not from this area so I don't know what its called.)? In all the times I've driven by there it looks pretty desolate.

When I lived in Germany during my USAF days, PCA used Army and AF runways and parking ramps. Several years ago, the AL Highway Patrol was using part of Craig Field (my second AF assignment 74-76) in Selma. Is there another similar space in central Alabama, ie, where do our local police forces go for their high performance driver training. In Albuquerque, we used the State Highway Dept training facility. I'll ask the Alabama Traffic Safety Center in Montevallo if they would even consider us using their lots and pass answer to Chairpersons.

A co-worker mentioned the closed Century Plaza mall, I don't know anything about it or how big the lot is but he said there used to be AutoX events there years ago.
I spoke with folks at Craig Field a couple of years okay. They were anticipating a big announcement regarding development at the airport, so no car stuff. Would be worth a revisit though
Century Plaza has a large sidewalk that cuts what could a decent site into two lots. I think the old events were run on top of the hill behind the mall.
Someone already mentioned Alabama Splash Adventure in Bessemer. Looking at Google Maps, it looks like it would be a great site. They open the last week of May, & close the first week of Sept.
If we could get it for March, April, May, Sept., Oct., Nov. & Dec... then maybe we could fill-in June, July, August at Oak Mtn? It still doesn't solve the Match Tour problem, but it would be a great new site. It is now family owned & they may be willing to entertain the idea to help subsidize the seasonal business? May be worth a try.

Troopers use the infield at the super speedway. Fun to watch, good for motorcycle testing, but nowhere near enough room for us. Don't know about other departments. I was looking at Google maps for a possible location at Fort McClellan. C, have you ever rode around out there?

I think the Splash Adventure idea needs investigating. Could be a win/win during their offseason, and I love how easy it would be to secure that lot with only one way in.
Bo Jinright mentioned a police training facility in Montgomery. He said it's a big square lot and is used for police car events now, approximately 10 acres. It's near the airport in Montgomery so I don't think sound would be an issue. I gave him Rod's phone number to discuss. It's a longer drive than some of you are used to but still shorter than I drive to get to b-ham. Possibly a site for the Match Tour or other ALSCCA events.
Plus I'd rather go there than Tuscaloosa. If things get moved to Tuscaloosa I won't be attending, too far to drive.
