  • So where to now...met is gone again

So from what I'm hearing all car related events at the met have been cancelled effective immediately. The motorsports lab autocross on Saturday made so much noise that a flood of complaints came in Monday. I was hoping to get to run at the met again some day. Bummer for all, that includes you guys as well as the teen survival school.

That sucks. I was there Saturday instructing for the tire rack street survival program in the lower lot. The upper lot had a Gallardo and F430 doing hot laps for $$$$$, it was loud!

Hopefully the good folks at Hoover can make a distinction between a group actively trying to control sound and be a good steward of their facility versus one that does not.

Now we wait and see what our Solo Chairs find out.

From our street survival organizer. He sent out the email this afternoon asking us to search for a new location.

We'll provide an update as soon as possible, but at the moment things are not good. The club meeting is tonight so we'll be talking about it in as much detail as possible.

The most frustrating aspect is this is largely due to the unmuffled, or barely muffled, "supercar experience" on Saturday. We've worked hard to control sound in what we knew was a sensitive area and a few folks roll in for one day and torpedo the whole thing.

Thats just great. I know I hate those " supercar experience" people.

You would think a supercar experience would best be served up at a racetrack, or at least on the highway where you could experience the joy of cell phone users wandering into your lane. Maybe in a shopping center, looking for a place to park that won't end up with door dings and paint chips from big momma who has to swing the door of her beat up Impala aaaalllllll the way open to get out. That would be a true supercar experience.

I hope there were no complaints on our Sunday event. It seemed very quiet.

How, I wonder did the MET allow the supercar experience to continue to proceed on Saturday considering the noise level? We have to be very cognizant of noise, why weren't they held to the same or similar standard? Was no one on site that had ears? I heard it and I live about 5 miles away, 3 as the crow flies. It sounded like jack-assery in the rain.

To be fair, we have been "sound Nazis" because we recognized the risk moreso than being asked to do so. Still, in today's environment, ANYONE running a car event should also be aware that noise complaints are the #1 killer of sites.

True. We've been good stewards of the site and know the importance of sound control.
I assumed that the MET staff would be equally aware of noise being the #1 complaint and would shut someone down that was obviously loud. Hopefully the supercar experience transgression won't be held against us.

Yeah C and I had dealings with a supercar group once. Not sure if it's the same group but the entire group fit the "supercar rental car" bill.
