Wish you guys the best in the delicate politics of the situation.

Perhaps, you can isolate the majority of the complaints were targeted towards Saturday events and not during the autoX on Sunday. Determine from HooverMet if there were any noise complaints for past events you guys have held there. If no complaints documented previously, refer to SCCA sound restrictions as a prerequisite HooverMet should consider for future events for other parties.

Please keep us appraised of the situation and any official releases/updates.

          Good ideas.

Since Sam Copeland has the longest relationship with Hoover and is a Hoover resident, he's going to be running point on this. SCCA National has provided economic impact dollars for the Match Tour to help him plead our case.

Y'all have done a great job so far with the tone of this thread and let's continue to keep it as constructive as possible. I'd really like to keep speculation, etc to minimum. Please continue to share any ideas you may have, but let's not do/say anything that will get in the way for Sam, Josh, & Charlie.

Seems like the Met would have sound limits written on their contract to limit users and exclude those events that would exceed the noise limits. And have someone from the Met there to shut down groups that are obvious violators.

Perhaps...but they don't. The fireworks they used to set off after home games would have exceeded the limit anyway. We also enjoy not having to pay additional $$$ for a staff person to be onsite, because that would surely get rolled into the rental fee.

Jack Joyner is the lead for our survival school. Might be best to speak with him and see if both clubs can't come up with a solution. The bmwcca held an auto x earlier in the year with no complaints as well as multiple Street survival schools. Sucks being lumped in with the supercar guys who make a killing off a NASCAR style autox ($300 bucks for 5 laps, and yes plenty of sucker's showed up).

I sent an email to jack with the info about the meeting tonight, don't know if he can make it but he's got the info.

If you do not already have the information, most county/cities/facilities have sound ordnances of some sort. Some are as simple as "did somebody complain?" to a specific dB level. Yes, these can be waived for specific events. Ask the local police.

We had to work sound with the School and City in the early days of using Milton Frank Stadium. There was one busybody in the adjacent apartments who habitually complained about everything (us, neighbors, etc) because he liked to sleep late, hated everyone, etc. Took us a lot of genuflecting and discussing our sound regulations. Finally, the jerk moved out.

Good luck with your quest. It is so easy to lose a SOLO venue when the issue is caused by someone else.

No real news but I thought I would share the direction we're heading...

                    1. Sam Copeland & Mike Wenning are taking lead in discussions with Hoover. Both are Hoover residents and Mike is a Hoover business owner. The primary focus is saving the June Match Tour since the Met is the only suitable location for an event that size. Sam is going to reach out to Jack Joyner (Heart of Dixie BMWCCA) since their Street Survival events were another victim.

                    2. Josh is talking to Oak Mountain Amphitheater so there is hope we could return there. We planned to run some events there this year anyway but have had communication challenges.

                    3. Josh is going to contact Shelton State in Tuscaloosa. Shelton has a great lot and was generally open to the idea a couple of years ago but sealed their lot and wanted to wait. It's a long way to go but it is a big flat site.

                    4. Charley has started discussion with the Birmingham Race Course. The two large upper sections of their lot are in decent shape and are bigger than the course side of Oak Mountain. The catch is those are the only two sections that are usable, so it's either those or nothing.

                    5. Chris Asmus, our Social Media director, is going to post on the Facebook page soliciting ideas for new sites. We know the ones mentioned above, but perhaps some of our new folks have a new location in mind or a contact at a potential site.

I do not have a contact at this place, but one big parking lot that goes unused a large chunk of the year is Alabama Splash Adventure's lot in Bessemer. They are open in the summer, specifically Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, but in the spring and fall it's mostly empty on the weekends. It's now run by a family company instead of the city or county that had it when it was Visionland, and it isn't really close to any houses. It has been years since I went there, so I cannot speak to the quality of the surface of the lot.

What about the parking lot at the abandoned outlet mall near Alabama Adventure. Been a while since I've seen it so not real sure on its size or condition.

Last time I drove by there, it wasn't really great. There's also several light poles that reduces the usable space. I also couldn't get in touch with anyone in charge of the place to discuss rental options.

There are very large areas paved inside of Talladega Superspeedway, would be cool to run there. Lol

It would, but Casey says there is much less space there than you'd think
