It is actually the "Barber Proving Grounds." Mercedes uses it for the autocross (lead follow) portion of their Brand Immersion Training. They will probably move their cars completely off the area. The Porsche School uses it for their one-day G-Force event. The white portion in the picture is a concrete banked curve, the rest is asphalt. Hopefully the Saleen Club requested the use of the air conditioned, trailer-based toilets that are on site. You can get a 45 second course, but will have to artfully use most of the asphalt. Parking and grid are basically "unlimited!"
I may have to find a car or bum a ride.

I would love to hear any information on the Barber AX this past Sunday? How did it go? How many participants? The good, the bad?

110 participants, 3 run groups, 5 runs each. Many more spectators than normal for an autocross. My understanding is there were no problems at all during the event and the Barber personnel were highly complimentary of how our folks conducted it. Even with the mandatory 11-noon quiet hour everyone was off the site by 5pm. Everyone I have spoken to had a blast.

The only "bad" I can think of is the facility is not suitable for an SCCA sanctioned event, but given the site rental fee that really isn't a factor.

Out of sheer curiosity, what makes that venue not suitable for an SCCA event?

I think that the part that was used for the course could have been swapped with the part that was used for the paddock and it would have been totally viable as a SCCA site but still as Rod said ....the cost of the site makes it less than inticing to us with our present site choices to say the least. I had fun and Im sure everyone else did too but the potential for problems was certainly there.

I was a fun site and I'm glad we got to run it. The banked turn was a lot of fun! However future points events will be held at the Hoover Met or Oak Mt. There is just not enough space to easily run a large event at the proving grounds.

You could clear up a bunch of space by paddocking on top of the hill, near the new building now under construction.

Yeah, I had assumed that's where paddock would be. Sam told me the Zoom folks didn't want traffic on the access road so everything had to be on the proving ground. They were able to send trucks/trailers to the top of the hill at least.

I have heard figures ranging from $4k-$8k but don't know the real answer. By all accounts it is too much for us to justify even if it did meet SCCA standards.
