just make sure i understand this; harness in hard top w/o rollbar is ok, but harness in convertable is not allowed unless it has a roll bar 2" above the head.

      From the 2009 Solo Rules

      3.3.1 Driver Restraints
Seat lap belts are required in all cars, and must be installed in cars
with passive restraint systems that do not include a lap belt. Installation
and the use of shoulder belts or harnesses is strongly recommended,
however non-factory upper body restraints may only be
used in open cars, cars with targa-tops in the open position, or cars
with T-tops in the open position when two conditions are met:
      a. The roll structure must meet either the requirements of Appendix
C or Section 9.4 of the GCR.
      b. The top of the roll structure may not be below the top of the
driver’s helmet when the driver is in the normal driving position.
The 2" might be urban legend or a SE Div requirement. Maybe someone can find a reference.

let me say this ...our "2inch" rule came about for the sole purpose of judging whether or not an open (convertible) car with a rollbar met ALSCCA's criteria for _safety_to run in a PDX at Barbers and TGPR.It is not nor should it have been represented as a SCCA wide rule .Thats just background .

As a SCCA region we are bound to the minimum of the GCR but we are not_restrained_to that being the only standard. If the region /club decides that the rule is not enough then we have the _freedom_to put our own SUPPLEMENTS in place. The "2inch "rule was a supplement and was used for a particular set of circumstances.I hope this is illumination .

I've had the 2" inch rule applied to me at the Dixie Tour. Where I was told I wasn't allowed to use the shoulder harnesses. Which is fine, because I like being a bit free-er in the seat and use some body english on turns. Man I love that Momo seat. Holds you in place with out strapping you down.

It is an Official SCCA rule.
From the SCCA TIME TRIALS RULEBOOK

A minimum of a roll bar meeting the requirements of this section of the TTR shall be required in all cars.
          11.3.1. Basic Design Considerations
          A. The basic purpose of the roll bar is to protect the driver in case the vehicle rolls over or runs into an obstacle such as a guardrail or catch fence. This purpose should not be forgotten.
          B. The top of the roll bar must be a minimum of two (2) inches above the drivers’ helmet when the driver is sitting in a normal driving position (as near the roof as possible on closed sedans) and shall not be more than six (6) inches behind the driver. In case of two driver cars, both drivers must be within the roll bar height requirement, however only one driver must be within six inches of the roll bar.

So it stands to reason that if you have a rollbar for TT purposes and you go to a SOLO and want to run your harnesses you must abide by this rule. Otherwise lose the shoulder harnesses. I knew I wasn't dreaming this up.

When I just sat in your MoMo I hated it because my butt was too big, but when you let me drive that sweet little yellow monster, I loved it. It does hold you in place and is great for the limbo. After you learn how to play nice, burn'em up at Roebling. Wish I was there with you.

I think this thread is thoroughly jacked .Did anyone reply back to the SEB on the subject of combining the CS and BS class etc.?
