Forum will no longer be utilized!
After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.
Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.
What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

Circumstances affect your availability to attend an event. Mine are very different from Nicks. I am married, have four children, 10 grandchildren, throw in birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and some travel, they all don't live here, and things make it complicated to get to all events. Add age and summer heat, I like drops.

I like drops, if I were getting paid to do this and could honestly say this is what i do for a living then i would be against the drops. Since we aren't proffesional autocrossers, even though most of us would like to think we are, it just makes since to make it as easy as possible for people to enjoy their hobby by allowing drops. Now if only I could find a way to make money doing this.....

I have to miss the November event for a family vacation that had to be scheduled around my brother-in-law's (he's a paramedic) and my father-in-law's (assistant District Attorney) schedules. I wasn't about to say "No we can't go! I have to go drive around in a parking lot that weekend!" I've tried my hardest to make all the other events I could (missed one so far) since I bought the season pass, and because it's, ya know, fun but sometimes it can't be avoided.
If I'm ever fast enough to be competing for a class win and I lost out because I had to miss one event, I would be a very sad panda.Delanie Calhoun

I just work in the manufacturing industry. Weekend work is required and I don't get to choose which weekends. People in service or retail jobs can probably relate. Looks like the vote agrees.Erik B.
Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

Ditto to Erik's post... I work weekends. Not that I've been in contention for a year-end championship in a while due to vet school and then working weekends, but my opinion is that the drops are good because its very difficult to make it to every event, even if you don't have to work weekends. Yes, the year-end championship should be awarded to drivers who participate regularly, but it should also be awarded to the drivers who earned the trophy also by proving their driving ability on course. I feel like not allowing drops weights it towards a participation competition, while allowing some drops makes it about both participation and driving ability.- Jordan, GS-15

We are not pros I agree but I don't think our club racers have drops and they damn sure ain't any more pro than us autocrossers. Have you seen the crap they drag to the track? Talk about the unwashed masses...

So how many drops? I respectfully disagree with Clay's idea of 50% +Juan. Four drops on a ten event season seems a bit high. One drop is probably not enough to make it worth even having. I would propose one of five. Five events one drop, ten events two drops, fifteen events three drops etc...

20% sounds about right.Originally posted by engled View PostWe are not pros I agree but I don't think our club racers have drops and they damn sure ain't any more pro than us autocrossers. Have you seen the crap they drag to the track? Talk about the unwashed masses...

I think that people that have jobs on the weekends or have church or vacation/family commitments should not be penalized. And I think the Huntsville rules are fair and rewards good drivers vs just attendance.Originally posted by engled View PostSo how many drops? I respectfully disagree with Clay's idea of 50% +Juan. But I am willing to compromise (unlike our Senate). Why not allow a drop of 1/3 of events? That is still over a 66% participation rate. And does nor DISCRIMINATE against weekend workers. So...
6 events-Best 4 events
7 events- Best 5 events
8 events- best 6 events
9 events- Best 6 events
10 events- Best 7 events
11 events- Best 8 events
12 events- Best 8 events
And if someone does not have a 66% participation, still allow them to participate in the year end as long as they have a 50% participation rate. That keeps one person from entering an obscure class for one or 2 events and winning a championship, but if a person has attended at least 1/2 events, they can drive super well and compete with people that have the full number of events allowed. Kinda like having a basketball team with only 4 players because of foul trouble. They can still compete but are at a disadvantage.
Trophies are given at National events for every 3rd entrant. This is a similar concept
PS- Just a thought...

I've been doing this for about a year, so take this for what it's worth.
Being married with a 2 year old I consider myself lucky to be able to take a day or two to myself per month (on average) and with the events scheduled out early I can give notice to the Warden to be out with y'all.
I voted for drops next year only out of curiosity. I think it's a good thing that we're willing to make rules changes between seasons. To me it would seem boring if the rules were carbon copies year after year
And if no drops are allowed next year, that's fine too. As long as we're given notice we know what the ground rules are and should be able to make plans accordingly, right?
Edit: except when life happens of course!

We have drops this year, and have for most years recently. If you're wanting change, should have voted for no dropsOriginally posted by cdambrose View PostI voted for drops next year only out of curiosity.
