  • Weight in on rule interpretation please

    Was just looking over SM rules when it comes to the front fascia.

    SM is based on rules from ST/SP with additions. SP says you can't modify the front fascia's openings and SM kind of gives a vague paragraph saying you can modify the fascia, but isn't as specific as the AP rule.

    I've considered blocking off one of the openings on my front fascia (still have to look it over to gauge cooling needs for the ACD system) and am just wondering how you guys interpreted it. I may block off one opening completely, or use it as a duct. Would either one be illegal in SM?

    The opening in question in below the left headlight.

    And C, you can't say yes just becasue you want an advantage!

    I am guessing this is the paragraph?

    I. Front hoods (engine covers), engine covers, trunk lids and hatches
    not containing glass, front fenders, rear fenders not part of chassis
    structure (unibody), front & rear facias, and side skirts may be modified or replaced, and may be attached with removable fasteners.

    If so, then I would interpret "modifying front fascia" as being able to open, close, move, add, delete, part or all of the fascia.

          Got to look around for some flexible tubing to make a cooling duct now. Got a neat idea. Hooray!

            As ghetto as it sounds, dryer duct from Lowe's or something works, or you could be proper and get actual brake duct material, but where's the fun in that? :P

              Except actual brake ducting material is absurdly expensive.

              Reinforced Dryer tube is the best option.

                It's not really *that* expensive:

                Our Silicone Air Duct Hose is great for brake cooling ducts (rated to 550F). It is very flexible, but a spring-steel support coil inside prevents it from collapsing.

                $46 for a 6 foot length of 2" ducting, $57 for a 6 foot length of 3"

                          I was going to say that too. Specially when I can go to lows and get it for cheap.

                          But why block the cooling inlet on the front bumper when u can perhaps modified the undertray?. I'm playing with the same idea for brake cooling aid. But I'm going with replacing / making a diffuser piece from stuff u can get from lowes. C

                            I'm not using the front duct for the brakes. Brakes are cooled with the undertray. I wanted to route air upward to the intake box just above that opening. A new undertyray is in the works too ... just trying to find a way to use all this carbon I have. =)
