Forum will no longer be utilized!

After facing many challenges with utilization of this forum for many years, the board voted on the evening of 1/12/2026 to stop use of the forum in favor of the modern, more effective means.

Most of our general club organization will now be coordinated via Discord and results from our events along with schedules and announcements will be hosted on our main alscca.net webpage.

What does this mean for the old forum? Well, in short we are going to stop using it. This has been reviewed several times in the past few years, and there has been a desire for some of more tenured members of the club to have the historic content preserved. In an effort to preserve this content, it was discovered that we could not simply export the content to be placed in a modern website. This forum will now become an archive only forum and will not be monitored. If you wish to preserve any of the content, this is your time to search the pages to find it. There is no promise that this content will remain available forever with the fragile nature of this forum.

ok, so I got some new tires, but its got me wondering. Basically I have my stock wheels which are 17x6.5 and the stock size tire is 215/50/17. Now since the max size for ST class is 225mm, I got Star spec 225/45/17. I had nittos in the same size a while back and they were alright, I just had to lower the pressure. There was a slightly bigger bulge in the sidewall with the weight on it but I'm not sure if it was as wide as the dunlops. The tire is about 1/2-1" (just looking at it) wider than the stock tires. I just hope that the rolling in the turns won't put to much pressure on it at the events.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

It's no big deal. Most of us Evo's run 255s on the stock wheels, which came with 235s. They might need a little more pressure, but that's all.

That 225/45 will give you a little better gearing too, so you'll probably like that.

the star specs probably have a much stiffer sidewall as well.

I've had my star specs for 6 months now and ran about 8 events plus daily driving and I can tell you...you'll love them. The tread pattern is wider (more squared than rounded edge) and slightly smaller stiffer sidewall with the new size you have compared to the old tires, which is most likely why your not seeing the "bulge" you described. The sidewalls of the Dunlops are rather stiff compared to many other street tires I've had in the past.
I also noticed less bulge coming off of Kumho ASTs in the same size myself.
