I propose a longer stopping area. lolJeremiah Hodgins

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I agree. I think I may have been the only car to finish flat out through the finish, without lifting for the kink at the end, and still come to a complete stop inside the box. My brakes were not happy with that, and I have a slow car.Erik B.
Why do I keep racing these weird cars?
Why can't I just get a miata and be happy?

The point of the box was twofold:
1. Keep the cars from flying out onto the road. (which we thought would be more in use by dog-track people.)
2. Make sure we hauled all the cars down to paddock speed before they ever got near the starting cars.
It worked well on both counts and only a handful of people hit the cones or could not get stopped. We could extend it a little bit and still meet the objectives, but the problem remains that we must get cars stopped without getting into the road or aiming toward the starting cars.
I also want to note that a true stop box is a legitimate and traditional autocross feature. We did not actually use one this time, but in a true stop box, there is a penalty for not coming to a COMPLETE stop. Yesterday, most everybody did a 'boulevard stop', which was fine. But it would be within good design standards to require a complete stop or get a penalty(like hitting a cone). I'm not a huge fan of that, but we might use it sometime.
I had a little trouble with stopping in the box as well, so I feel your pain. I'm still going to use it in the future, for safety's sake.

I was definitely full throttle through the slalom and kink and still managed to stop in the box....thanks for ABS by BMW. Actually the second time I went through that section the ABS kicked the pedal four or five times before I completely stopped and the rear decklid cover came loose and was in the floorboard when I got back to grid. It was great fun!!!!John Kilgore...if winning was easy, losers would do it.

Actually using your brakes is also part of autocross that some course designers tend to eliminate. Of course my brakes had more grip than my tires and I went through the end of the box once. I drive an old miata... what's ABS?
Also when the course was laid out we didn't think anyone would be going so fast at the finish. It was a pretty cool small lot course. Good job Eric!!John W8

I must admit I had a rather large grin after several of those stops, maybe because of how crazy and atypical as it was. It was a very fun course with various challenges. Eric did a great job designing an intense course.Erik B.

Oh, and John, the "ripping the space/time continuum" joke when Diana launched my car was hilarious!

Maybe have "Gramps" Wenning standing by the split. He looks pretty distinguished...
I don't know why we need to change that. NO ONE got confused by that part...Eric Edwards

I had a little concern about the kink just before the finish. It's was very easy to get the rear loose in the section if you had the need to drop speed before the lights to stop correctly (like a 3120lb Evo ...). Many people got really loose there and took out comes after the finish. I only took out one on the inside right at the entrance to the box, but was very loose on my faster runs.
Basically, I love the idea of the box, but just think it needed to be straighter or a little deeper. I would have rather seen a shorter box in a straight line with the lights closer to the end to keep the cars balanced. But that's just me.
The rest of the course was amazing from concept to execution. Even those 8 cones that ripped off my plate. Who thought it was possible to be 2nd fastest overall as well as slowest run of the day? +16 HURTS!Matt W.
