Updating this thread ...entry fee is set at $30 for all entrys regardless of membership status .4 runs are guaranteed in competition for points. Each additional run is $5 each counting only as fun runs .Fun runs for charity are limited only by time permitting.Im thinking 2-3 for anyone willing is absolutely doable.

All monitary proceeds minus insurance fees and site rental are to be donated to Childrens Harbor .Thanks to Mike Cavanaugh ,I read this months addition of "inside line"which announced that the SCCA has started a new program in which regions ,who put on charity events ,are eligible for a one time per year waiver of sanction fees which is all the more money to donate to Childrens Harbor since we wouldn't have to pay the sanction fee for this event .

In addition ...we are also collecting unwrapped toys for Lovelady house at this event .All entrants are encouraged (not required)to bring an unwrapped toy to brighten up a less fortunate childs christmas .Thanks to Sharon and Tim for coming up with this and managing it .If you wish to pay for your fun runs with toys ...you may .1 toy ...1 run...You ge the picture.Dig deep and lets spread some of our prosperity to some that are less fortunate

This sounds like a great event in the making. I'm going to have to send a "letter" to the national office, too, to thank them for their support.

I'll pass the word about this at the events this week in Atlanta. We should be able to get a few more people to B'Ham now that our season is over (after this weekend)... especially for a great cause. I'll be there with a toy and some $$ for Fun Runs

Well, if we are only going to get .4 runs, I think the cones should only count .002 seconds. I mean, its only fair!

Here are some quotes and testimonials from Childrens hospital doctors and families that have benefitted from Childrens harbors assistance :

Care and management of chronic lung disorders such as asthma and cystic fibrosis create numerous challenges for children and their families. These include the day-to-day stress that accompanies respiratory symptoms (such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and fatigue), financial stresses produced by expensive but necessary medications, employment and school stresses due to absenteeism produced by acute symptoms of the disease, stresses produced by the time commitments needed to accomplish daily cares of disease management, and emotional stresses due to coping with chronic and life altering/threatening diseases. The Harbor Center addresses these issues head on by providing social work and counseling services to these patients, their families, and to numerous other children with less common but nevertheless highly symptomatic and stressful chronic pulmonary conditions. These services are a welcome and necessary part of the family centered care mission of Children’s Hospital and the UAB Department of Pediatrics, with the vital personnel and support provided through our mutual partnership with Children’s Harbor.

                  another couple of testimonials.

I cannot conclude my reasons for wanting to serve on the board of Children’s Harbor without saying I am so impressed with the use of funds given to the organization. Every penny is put to good use without any waste. When one donates to Children’s Harbor he/she can know that their gift is being used for the children and their families with no wasted administrative cost. (Dr. Bill Hansford)

After a few weeks Savannah became conscious and alert. She began ever so slowly to regain some limited motor skills. As soon as she was permitted to leave the ward we took the short trip across the above ground sidewalk to the Children’s Harbor facilities. Savannah was pampered and my wife and I were feed wonderful meals provided through Children’s Harbor by local charitable groups. Children’s Harbor was a bright star in a dark period of our lives.(Bob Dewhurst)

Hey Ricky. At the last event you said the following, IIRC. All entries $25, four runs. Additional runs are $5 each or 1 unopened toy. Is that correct? I've read several different takes on this.

Thats correct Chris. However due to my forgetting about what I originally posted and set on Axware ...its too late to back up.$30 entry for all regardless of registration method or membership for 4 runs. Each fun run costs $5 or (1) unwrapped toy.I got a little turned around several times since then .Its been a crazy few weeks .Its all for a very worthy cause .

                      Sorry for the confusion .

Also, i take it that the $30 is for the normal event so you'll have to work and you'll get points. After that, you can pay $20 for 4 runs but no points.

so we're only getting 4 runs before we shut it down for the day? Not going to see what the turnout is like and base the number of timed/counted runs from that?

Chuck is correct .We that have much and can afford to go out once per month to wear out expensive tires are putting on this event as we do every year. This year it is to help an organization that directly aids seriously ill children and their families.Im looking forward to it .

Basically ,there are no time tables .We finish timed runs and we do fun runs untill folks are tired of doing them or are broke or both. The timed runs are not set in stone .I guarantee 4 as a minimum.

Childrens harbor will be there with t-shirts for sale and they will be happy to accept any donations you feel led to contribute .

Its hard to tell what you have taken .This is what i have in my head and have tried to relate ....and Im absolutely not singling this post out but it seemeds like a good spot to interject this .

                                1)the entry is $30 regardless.
2)all monitary proceeds minus sanction and insurance goes to childrens harbor
3)unwrapped toys are being accepted on behalf of lovelady house coordinated by Sharon and Tim
4)4 timed competition runs are guaranteed
5)runs subsequent of timed competition runs are either $5 each or (1) unwrapped toy each
6)voting for the solo standout awards will be at the drivers meeting rather than the trophy presentation since the majority splits after the event ends .

These are the only guidelines for this event .The only differance in the way this is being conducted and the rest of our season events is that there is a middle of the road entry fee, there could be 1 less run for the buck and fun runs are being encouraged to allow the largest contribution our fine club can offer.

If anyone is unclear PM me and I will be glad to answer any specific questions .
