annual charity event on 11/23/08

As most of you already know and some may not .....our last solo event of the year is to benefit charity.The charity is Childrens Harbor .This is an organization that provides support for sick ,maybe even dying kids and their families who travel back and forth to childrens hospital for treatment and care.This organization has history with ALSCCA in the sense that representatives of their organization came out and thanked us in person at our 06 banquet for that years contribution.

I will be contacting them in the latter part of this week and I was thinking that it would be cool to have them participate in this event in whatever way we could this time .

At any rate ,lets all kindof talk about ways to maximize this event so that it has the biggest impact in these childrens lives .It wasnt that long ago that my own son was in childrens hospital when he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes.

For those who are parents...and especially for those who are parents who have experienced the helpless ,powerless feeling that goes along with your child being sick,I am sure this will be a cause that is close to your hearts .

I personally spent many, many months in children's hospitals as I was growing up. Charities like this really helped my family during these times. Having a child with any type of disability or illness is a strain on nearly any family ... emotionally and financially. Anything we can do will help.

Ricky, have we done anything special in the past to help attendance? Anything that worked or didn't work? I have no problem trying to get some info from work (Southern Company) to see about a sponsorship or at least permission to get some info out.

That is what I had in mind.I am going to get in contact with Sharon Watson and see how she may be able to help us in the way of a sponsor letter to present to prospective sponsors on a letterhead.

In the past,we havent really promoted it heavily but Id like to really do it up good.

I spoke with the representatives of Childrens Harbor yesterday .Tammy Jackson and Wanda Gayle will be setting up a booth at the event and they will also say a few words at teh drivers meeting .Should be a good time .Come with donations if you are so inclined .The proceeds from the event will be going to them but Im sure every little bit above and beyond will be appreciated.

Im trying to think of ways to maximize this event as much as possible .What do you guys think of instead of a set entry fee...we do it by run ?Say $5 per run and let folks run untill we run out of time or they run out of money.

We could also do a pledge type thing from area businesses where they pledge a certain amount based on how many runs we get in total ...kindof like a jumprope for heart kindof thing.just a thought ...any thoughts?

We would obviously have to put a run cap on the points part of the event ...say 1st 4or5 being your class runs and the rest be considered time only runs solely for the sake of charity /fun runs.Im not sure how to pull it off logistically but Im sure this could grow legs with more input from you guys.
