I'm about to get a '91 Mazda 323 FWD for $350 from my brother in-law.
I've been interested in Rally-x but don't want to mess up my nice cars so I thought this Mazda might be a perfect opportunity to give it a go and if it blows up oh well!
I don't care about being competitive at all, I just wanna throw some dust up and have fun (ie. I'm not putting a lot of $$$ into this at all)
So here goes my list:
1) I'm assuming SCCA has a rulebook for Rally-X? Are the classes set up pretty much the same as Auto-X?
2) I've read skinny tires are better but what is a decent medium performance off-road tire to start with? Lets say the equivelent of the Dunlop Star Specs or Falken 612s, but for the dirt!
3) Is a roll cage necessary?
4) If, lets say, I gut it out down to a seat, steering wheel and dashboard with maybe some fiberglass bodywork what class would that put me in? (Because I don't care about being competitive, I just want to completely destroy the resale value of this thing!)
Ahhh the joys of new toys!
