  • General Rallycross Q's.

First post don't beat me up to bad. I've never been to a rallycross and don't know much about it. I'll do some more searching on the net for the technical stuff. I did a couple autocross events in a Mustang SVO I used to own but it was a car club and for fun with no classes or rules. Autocross was a little bit fun but kind of slow for my taste. I'm hoping sliding in the dirt and shooting rooster tails will be a little more fun. I'm on a very limited budget so I would probably only be able to do a couple events if I decide to do it. I've got a line on a possible candidate. My brother offered to give me his 90 Mustang LX 5.0 hatchback that is in rough shape. 200k miles and he lives a 1/4 mile from the ocean so it has quite a bit of rust but nothing structural. Now for the questions.
    1. Is a Mustang a good choice for a rallycross vehicle especially since it's "free"?
    2. Besides your typical consumables what's all involved in getting a vehicle in a stock class prepared for rallycross?
If there is a good link to site I would appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Rick

Hey Rick..... Those are good questions. I'm glad your finding an interest in RX. Its much different than autocross in the aspect that conditions are always different & changing. So car control is a big factor....In my book a "free" car is a perfect rallycross choice. A Mustang would be a great RWD class car. I personal drive a RWD & think its that funnest thing ever. We are having our next event May 2th. You should come out and check it out. The 2010 SCCA Rallycross rule book will answer any question about classes & vehicle eligibility you might have..... Hope to see you out.

Answer to question #1-Any free car is a good rallycross car.
Answer to question #2-Make sure it is reliable, get a helmet and come on out.

Don't worry, we are all on a limited budget.

As Edwin said, our next autocross is May 2nd . There is so little you can do in the stock class to the car that you just need to pretty much air your tires up and show up.
I have only done 2 events so far and I love it. Even if your car is not ready( as long as it runs it is ready) come on out and watch. I bet the stang would be pretty fun to drive.

Rick, you should browse over to www.tvrscca.org and go to the forum link for a rallyx a little closer to home in Huntsville. Good guys at AlSCCA and the new rally ranch but you are welcome to join us just south of Fayetteville as well.

Usually there is a rental rallyx ride or two available as well.
