Looking at other expensive events Chuck, it doesn't seem so bad now. Now how do we go about advertising something like this, without it costing too much? Do you think we can get this many people by means of the internet alone?

Also what are some possible dates for this?

There are probably at least two dozen websites that would be appropriate places to promote this type of event. Most are local motorsports and marque forums, similar to this one, plus the usual national websites and forums. Also there is http://www.trackschedule.com/sched.html , and maybe other similar sites I'm not aware of.

Scheduling is a complex problem, requiring finding an open date at the track, as well as respecting the Solo and Club Racing schedules, plus avoiding other pitfall dates, such as the Iron Bowl and Mothers' Day. It could take until 2010 before it's possible.

To my knowledge the Barber's schedule for 09 is already set, so it will have to wait until 2010.

We took out a big ad in sportscar for our labor day weekend last...this...08

I was on the SEDiv Rules Advisory Cmt last year for TT. I am not aware of any SEDiv-specific rules for TT. There are a couple of extra classes, but no additional rules. The SEDiv TT events are run under the GCR as ammended by the National TT Rules.

That said, there is a GCR mandated maximum number of cars per mile of track, but I dont think this type of event would be in danger of breaking that limit.

Sounds like a lot of fun, but lets not forget the Nashville TT event (one of the best run events) allows for nothing but TT runs and we can barely get 3 timed sessions over the course of two days with approximately 13 hours of possible track time. TT entrants should expect one, maybe two timed sessions for this event.

I am all for a combined TT/PDX at Barbers, we should hash out the details and see what could be done to incorporate what is needed to make it work. Great start Chuck, we should continue this thread. AND please dont put me in Schaffer's group, his car filling up my mirror is a site I do not care to see again. For all that have not run with W&T's before - they have trouble pointing people by for passes and most do not have the ability to back up in a track off situation (or spinning and ending up backwards on the track). Saying this though, they are the drivers I most like to watch when I have downtime and we should make sure they are included in the event registrant list.

There must be something in writing at least defining what the specs are for the extra classes.

              Let's see. . . 25 per mile x 2.38 miles = 59 cars. All skate!

I was looking at the Barbers schedule and I noticed that the Auburn FSAE team has a whole weekend scheduled for 09. Perhaps we could work with them next year and see if they would be willing to divide some time up, as well as dividing the bill. I don't know if they are paying full money for the track since it is a University, but even if they aren't, we could offer assistance in running things as well as financially. I would find it hard to believe that they need that kind of track time for one car, all weekend.

Just a thought-for which someone will shoot me down for....lol

A couple years ago, FSAE groups from all over the SE came to Talladega Superspeedway to do a practice day or two to shake down cars and prep drivers and teams prior to their official competition.

This may be what they're doing at Barber, this year. I wouldn't bet on them being on track, just using the paddock or other paved areas.

Wow, why would they go to a place like that just to use the paddock area? I'm sure there are plenty of big open parking lots around Auburn...lol.

                      Classes for TT in SEDIV

This has not been updated for awhile but basically any Road Racing class Regional or National plus Street Prepared (ASP,BSP,CSP,DSP, and FSP) plus SM.
And yes it needs to be updated.

                        Woo Hooo!!!

This is awesome. I would love to see this up and running. I might even have to come back from california for the event!!!

One quick comment -- there has been a fair amount of bad press regarding the NASA events because they favor the racers over the PDX drivers.

Just a word of caution as people seem to be bending over backwards to allow the TT guys "extra" time to run wings and things.

115 people for a PDX -- at $350 per person -- with that much track time -- you'll get tons of people. This would compare favorably to NASA (track time) and Chin (price).

If we were really worried about financial liability, we could try to partner up with one of the BMW or Porsche clubs in the area.
Heart of Dixie BMW CCA (runs Barber August 2009)
                        Peachtree BMW CCA (runs RA)
                        Peachstate Porsche CCA (runs RA)

Lastly, if we aim for an early 2010 date, you could even start a pre-sign up list.

                        This is exciting.

I'm familiar with that page, and it's fairly self-explanatory except for SPEC, CS2000, V-O, V-C, SM, SSX and ITGT. Who besides a couple scrutineers know what the specifications are for these classes?

Well I don't think I've ever seen any of those classed cars ran with any of the Formula cars...but I could be wrong?

Several of the classes you indicate are classes which where run in SEDIV RR many many moons ago like CS200, SSX and ITGT. When those classes where run the car was logbooked with that class indicated. SEDIV Solo 1/TT never really got rid of any class as long as the belts where in date and the extinguisher was full helmet correct year so on so forth (there has been an occasional GT4 and GT5 run). Those classes eventually became eliminated in RR due to low turnouts but still had a home in Solo 1/TT. Specials were very popular at Chimney Rock back in the eighties but I never saw written rules just that they were cars that could not fit any class but had all of the safety equipment.
The real fun is with SM, there was actually an SM Solo 1 class way before the SM solo class came about and I actually wrote a rules this past year to move the old Solo 1 SM to another class - there were very few of the old Solo1 SM cars so it may be a mute point.
Is it perfect no and we really don't see those classes show up anyway maybe someday it will answer every question but then again.....

Ah, vintage classes. That makes sense. I see some listed, here http://www.rivergate5speed.com/scca/...s-vintage.html and a reference to the Vintage Comp Rules, so there really is a place to look. It looks like that rulebook isn't available online, though.
