"If you try to make the TT a one day event at Barber, you will probably lose the out of town guys who may not want to travel that far for only a one day event"

Craig, the thing we are thinking about doing is definitely not a 1 day thing .Its a schedule that has most of the test and practice time on Saturday and the competition timed runs on Sunday. The PDX stuff is sprinked in amongst all of it .

"PDX's do not allow the "wings and things" cars which is a real downer for some of the TT guys."Sorry about that but that is not in our hands. Its door slammers on one side and open wheels on the other.I agree with you Craig.I run HPDE with PBOC and its not unusual to have a radical come blowing by me in the instructor group ...I dsont mind if they dont .That is a club rule and I agree with it from the open wheeler's stand point .

"Allowing passing on the straights with a significant number of TT cars on track is an issue with the SEDIV TT folks. The biggest issue is the ability to provide sufficient numbers of trained corner workers for the track"it aint in the rules in black and white from what I see.Its understood that there is reservation but I was only stating what is written and what is not .Let me say that in 07 at our PDX at Barbers...we had open passing in the instructor group on not only the straights but anywhere as long as a point was given...and it was grand .No incident ,no issue. It was done with common sense of course .you obviously wouldnt try to overtake during a PDX in the tunnel turn on the outside nor would you give a point there but it was understood by the pointer as well as the pointee that as soon as it was safe they had the green light and it worked fine .Point being ...why cant that be the way we do it ?Instructors and seasoned TT'ers are absolutely worthy of the trust of that discretion.

I guess when I use the term TT'ers I should be more specific ...level 3 and up TT guys have shown their worthines to decide whether or not its safe to make a pass....Let em is what I say..so long as they are faster than a car in front of them .Workers are here.Workers will happen. They come out of the woodwork everytime we have a Barbers event (Im a worker )

Im not trying to rebut you Craig or even paraphrase you because I think everyone wants the same thing...safe track trials that is doable fiscally at a large venue with large rental responsibilitys with the added benefit of being able to offer PDX to the masses and enhancement of more track time for all.If its a pipedream ....then it is.What do you guys think?

I am a strong proponent of allowing passing in TT. I also have attempted to sell the concept to the SEDIV TT hirarchy numerous times. They just do not seem to be interested in it.

Did HPDE for 5 years at various tracks where it was allowed and it worked just fine there. With less experienced drivers. HPDEs usually brought in 100-120 drivers.

It seems quite backward that we can do passing in a PDX and not in a TT. TT has a significantly higher level of safety equipment for the cars and driver.

        I feel ya Craig,

I am one of those guys who has come up through the solo ranks then in the level 1 TT way.

The big thing here that I see is that the "heirarchy" of TT never really believed in PDX as a part of TT and are _still_ secretly waiting for it to fall flat on its face .(not going to happen)

I would unquestionably rather be passed by a level 1 TT (advanced PDX guy) than most level 2 ,3,4, guys .They are used to it .They get the point and they know they are going offline and they are going by .The pointee already knows that he is rolling out of the throttle to facilitate the pass.It all works just fine .

This all goes against the grain with some old timers who had to go out and buy safety equipment that was very expensive only to watch these folks from PDX go out there and get the same track time as them with nothing more than long pants ,long shirts ,and ...well...a autox safety tech or less.

If Im wrong ...go on ahead and tell me .I am not though.I just spent 4 grand getting a car ready to go level 3 and up TT.I didnt need to spend any of that to go Level 1 with no less or more track time .The only differance is timing .

There used to be a school at the TGPR TT school, but it hasn't happened in a couple years, IIRC

Thats because one of the only TT SS teachers is usually busy trying to have worker laps at lunch and keep Upchurch from trying to shut it down.
              But that is another subject.

Maybe the solution to the lunch laps would be a second sanction for a PDX - too bad the national office charges more for additional sanctions at the same venue on the same date.

We we ran our PDX at TGPR luck time runs were completely out of the question, so maybe that won't be an issue this year.

If worker lunch laps are not an option, maybe we can have a SS class

I think I actually did a SS class last year at TGPR. I will do one again this year.

                                Who? What? Where? When?

Nothin' in NASA-SE, next event's at CMP in November, then December at Road Atlanta.

Doesn't look like Chin's schedule at Barber, either, and TGPR's hosting bikes (tentatively.)
