  • SCCA at Barber

There is a discussion going on on the www.teamtac forum regarding our Barber event. http://www.teamtac.org/e107/e107_plu...ewforum.php?40 I wanted to share some thoughts about that

TT and RR get the same track time each day and the entry fee structure is different for each. There are a number of factors involved in that decision.

This is the first time that a TT and Double SARRC has been scheduled together at Barber. Atlanta has combined TT and other RR at Road Atlanta for the past 4 years with varying TT schedules and varying success. We want the TT at Barber to be a huge success. The TT entry fees are set a bit lower than the RR fees as an inducement.

We were unable to schedule the Friday practice day due to financial issues. In order to make up for that, we wanted to make it attractive to the RR drivers to gain that practice time back by participating in the TT. Hence the reduced TT rates and the one day TT options. The daily TT/RR schedules are deliberately set to enable the practice time scenario.

Overall the entry fees are less than you would spend for a HPDE weekend at Barber being run by the not-for-profit or for-profit organizations.

Alabama and TVR have taken a financial risk by doing the Barber weekend. In the past couple of years, the weekend has ended up as a financial loss for the organizers. There were many reasons for that: weather, entry levels, withdrawals, expenses. We reduced the expense budget significantly, substituted the TT for the ECR/Pro-IT and went back to the double SARRC format. We have gone back to basics. Put on a quality, well run event that emphasizes giving the racer and the worker the best opportunity to have fun.

If the TT and RR drivers want to see Barber continue as a SCCA event, then they need to vote with their attendance. It is that simple.

When you do put the word out note that it is not a PDX or HPDE event. TT or RR licenses are required.

I WILL be registering for the TT.

          Let's see if this works. . .

Craig Farr wrote up a nice guide to obtaining an SCCA Time Trials Competition License and some related information, such as other licenses which can qualify one to participate in TT - https://docs.google.com/file/d/1FvcR...it?usp=sharing

Michael - It would be best if we can get your car issued a TT Logbook well before Barber. Tech at a big race is always quite busy. Doing it before benefits the Tech people. But it is also good for you particularly if there is an issue with your car that would prevent you from racing.

Mark Rothermel, Rich Crowell or myself can issue the TT Logbook, so let us know what you are doing.

It has been policy with MotorsportReg that CCs are not run until after the event.

That's not an interesting discussion that is a rehashed conversation. I don't like running with the srfs either but it's manageable. Let them go first or we can pull a plug wire or two off of R.L.'s car for qualifying.

                          Or, according to the GCR-146:

                          6.5.2.B.
The CS will determine the class(es) in each segment of a split
                          start.

The Chief Steward could just say, SRFs start first.

John, the only time it is a rehash is when the schedule requires it. Your car sits low enough so you can see them, most sedans cannot.

Would the SRFs be insulted if they were asked to add go-kart flags for visibility? ;-)
