  • I don't know where this goes so I put it here

First off, take your mind out of the gutter (or maybe that is just me).

Second, I was reading through the meeting minutes from March and noticed the talk of the upgraded and updated website. As a fairly new member I know that I have taken alot of time trying to find information about classifications and times for events and where to go and who to see, etc. My number one complaint has been that none of the information on the contact list is up to date, and it just seems like the SCCA Alabama region has fallen off the face of the earth, until you get to the forum and then you realize the opposite.
My suggestion is....If there is any way that a calendar of events can be put together on Google Calendar so that we can subscribe to it and have the updates automatically I for one think this would be great. I do enjoy the fact that TVR has a Google Calendar with events so that I can know what is going on and plan ahead without having to muddle through the forum. Ofcourse, then I go to their website and try to find out more information about the events and become frustrated beyond belief with their crappy website.

    Just my $0.02

    This thread, post 20.

Not official and only ALSCCA/TVR/TAC SOLO events but it does get updated.

we are working on this. we've been talking about it in our board meetings and hopefully soon we will be able to over hual the website. money is tight these days so we are trying to work with what we have. i'm sorry that you are not able to find what you need but i promise the issue is being addressed.

I'm going to second John's comments here. If I read him correctly, he's not really asking for a complete site overhaul.

However, there are a few things that could be done to this site that would DRAMATICALLY improve our web presentation.

I've harrassed RR about this already, but the REport is ridiculously out of date. I've only been a member here for a little bit, but RR is my RE. The previous guy was probably great, but RR is my RE and I'm waiting for his REport. As I write this rant, he's working on a rewrite of the REport. That is going to help a tremendous amount, but should be kept up to date.

In terms of John's suggestion for a google calendar, I think it is a really good one. The other Jamie (the non doc Jamie) has put a ton of effort into a complex regional autocross calender that has a tremendous amount of information. I (Doc Jamie) tried to put another calendar together for PDX events. It shouldn't be too hard to merge these two calenders and add the monthly board meetings, plus the periodic nerd fest surrounding computer simulated racing. (argghhh, I missed another one and really enjoy the nerd festivities --- not only am a nerd club client, I'm the president)

In tight times, we should optimize what we already have. Frankly, except for building our own registration system, I don't think we should add much to out website at all. We could probably make do with what we already have and I'm hoping the nerd crew can help organize a calendar.

John ----> good ideas man. Keep em coming.....

          -Jamie

P.S. just no breaking timing lights....

Doc Jamie, which mountain you climbing?

And yes, in regards to what Jamie has said, that is exactly what I am looking for. Not a complete site overhaul, just some basic information and direction of what to look for and where to go to find it. Even if it was "hey the information can be found on the National website" I would just like some ease of the information being disseminated. I am all for helping out on whatever I need to with putting calendars together and helping out with organization of everyone's individual information.

I know that our region has so much to offer, and we have an excellent group of guys and gals that want to be apart of driving cars like they are meant to be driven. I just think the follow through is lacking a bit. It seems that the southern region of SCCA has so many events through the TT, Hillclimb, Autocross,Rally etc.; but the information is so spread out it is hard to keep up with what your options are and what you should do if you are interested in pursuing a certain discipline.

                Thanks.
