ALSCCA has a long tradition of offering as many types of events as
possible within the framework of the SCCA national programs. This
includes Solo, RallyCross, PDX, Track Trials and Club Racing, as well
as our pet community service project, NDCCC.
Each of these activities requires a certain amount of volunteer
commitment, whether it's an event chair who tackles the whole
operation, participants who provide services to the event when not
driving, instructors, PA announcers, or, in the case of a big club
race, dozens of volunteers in all race specialties. Somewhere in the
middle is our Track Trials and school which is being held in two weeks, April 18th and 19th, 2009,
at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway.
This event has a proud history of helping folks have a safe,
controlled environment where they can get a first taste of high speed
timed road course competition without the pressure of wheel-to-wheel
racing. Some folks do this as a one-off event, others make TT a
destination, and others move on to club racing or back to Solo.
The continued success of this program depends on the help of a few
individuals willing to come out and help as a corner worker, gate
guard, grid worker, starter, or other fun task. The biggest payback
will be seeing some new TTers find their way around the track, as well
as seeing our famous CSP war play out at higher speeds.
But wait, there's more!
Volunteers will receive a free lunch each day, a free Solo or
RallyCross entry per day worked, training and experience towards a
Club Racing specialty license, and the satisfaction of a job well done
in support of our fellow racers.
And one other thing.
After the TT entrants finish their competition runs, each day, volunteers are
encouraged to taste the track with 20 minutes of track touring laps.
This should be a fun weekend with a big kick of a payoff. If you can
help, please contact me or John Waight.
I love this stuff!
