  • Barber 2015 Worker Opportunities

Tennessee Valley Region and Alabama Region of the SCCA are sponsoring a
DOUBLE SARRC / DOUBLE SECS / TT at Barber Motorsports Park on August 28-30, 2015.

    WE WILL NEED WORKERS

    Registration is open

SCCA - Tennessee Valley Region - Club Racing on Saturday, August 29, 2015 - Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, AL - ALABAMA & TENNESSEE VALLEY REGIONS SCCA Double SECS, Double SARRC and Track Trials August 29-30, 2015 Sanction #: 15-RQ-3461-S, 15-R-3462-S, 15-TT-3463-S A Spectator Runoffs Qualifier, Regional Racing...

We are paying $50/day plus lunch.
We have plans for a Saturday Night Social/BBQ and Beer Exchange.

    We'll need:

Corner Marshals: Work on the front lines of racing. Flagging and Communication with race control and the drivers. A very important job, fun and exciting to do. Experience not essential as you'd be paired with a trained pro corner worker.

Grid: Helps to get the cars lined up in the proper grid spot and out on the track. Experience not essential as you'd be a part of the team of grid personnel.

Tech/Scrutineer: Inspect the racecars prior to the race. You need a license for this. Call or email SCCA and get a regional license. (membership@scca.com) It's that easy! You move up a license grade with experience.

Impound: Hot race cars need to be pushed across the scales to be weighed post race. Even hotter drivers need a cold wet towel and bottle of water handed to them to help cool them down. Experience not essential, but it's a vital job that needs to be done.

Paddock Marshals: Race car drivers sure can find their way around the track, but have a hard time finding their way through the paddock area. Here's where you can help. Friday evening we need people to help the folks find a spot to park their rigs and get in the right area to get a power hookup. Experience not essential.

Registration: Help drivers get checked in, paid up if needed, and ready for a weekend of racing. Experience not essential as you'd be part of a team. On the job training, it's the best way to learn.

Sound Control: You wouldn't think a racetrack needs to keep the sound levels in check but Barber has its limits. Help us keep track of the sound levels that the racercars put out. Pretty easy, stress free job and in a great location 50-feet off drivers left just past the museum turn. Experience not essential as you would be part of a team of Sound Control personnel.

Timing and Scoring: There are alot of cars going around the track, someone has to keep up with who's leading and what order the cars qualified. This is about results and the drivers are always craving the results. It's a vital job. No experience necessary because they offer on the job training as well as a seat in the air-conditioned control tower.

Announcers: The public address system operators provide a steady stream of information to the drivers in the paddock regarding schedule information as well as race commentary for the spectators watching all around the track. Experience is a plus and a team of 2 works well in this situation.

These are important jobs that need to be done. The more hands we have the easier the work will be.
Help us put on the best race in the South East Division.

    Thanks!

At this point, I hoped to at least see a couple of folks say "Wow! That sounds like fun! I can't wait to help out!"

I announced it at the drivers meeting and results presentation at the autocross yesterday. Had a few guys come up to say they're interested. I suggested they post in this thread to get plugged in.

          You've left out Sound Control.

It's a lot easier and more fun for me to monitor and record sound levels for each on-track session if there's somebody else to talk to and to help set up/tear down each day, along with carrying sound reports from the museum paddock area over to the tower. This is a low-stress job, but it's technically in a "hot" area, about 50 feet from the race track.

Thanks Chuck. I'll edit the post when I can get on a keyboard. Phone keyboards are too dang small to write very much.

I'd like to help out. Kids will be back in school then so I'd only be able to do sat and/or sun. How would that work out? Would it be an all day commitment?

Yes, it would be an all day commitment. Saturday only or Sunday only is fine. We can find a place where you can help us out.

Awesome! It looks like a couple of folk have responded and signed up to help out. We'll need more. I know it's a while until the event, but don't let that keep you from registering. We need your help. This is a golden opportunity to help out at the races and not have to travel out of town to do it.

I know we're still a ways off from the event but I want to pester you all some more.

                          We are going to need:

Corner Marshals: Work on the front lines of racing. Flagging and Communication with race control and the drivers. A very important job, fun and exciting to do. Experience not essential as you'd be paired with a trained pro corner worker.

Show the Club Racing community some love and sign up to help.

John's right...working a corner is a great way to experience a race weekend and a job for which we never have enough workers. Volunteering at one of our events is the best way to get trained and give it a try. Plus, if you really like it you may be able to get on with FBF who provides workers for almost all events at Barber. It's a way earn a little extra cash as well as being up close & personal for everything from track day weekends to the Indycar weekend.

We are only a few weeks away from the event and we are very short of workers. We need people to get involved with the event. You can help. We pay our workers and we provide lunch for both days. Please, volunteer some of your time to help support the Alabama Region of the SCCA to put on the race at Barber. We need people to help in Impound (pushing cars on the scales and handing water and cold towels to the drivers as they come off track) Grid (Helping get cars in the right order to go out on track.) Administration (Making sure there is plenty of water and ice in the coolers for the workers and Tech people.) Corner Workers (Standing at a worker station watching the races up close and personal and communicating with Race Control if needed) Paddock Marshals (Help people get moved into the Paddock area on Friday evening.)

This is our only race for the year and we need your help in making it happen.

Register at the link posted at the beginning of this thread.
