  • Recommendations for mechanic

Looking for a good mechanic to diagnose and repair an oil usage problem on a factory turbo car for a rasonable price. Any suggestions?

No, but the hive mind might be able to help.

Is it smoking or just burning through oil?

Smoking (Worse at 10psi boost and after constant throttle on interstate). I am guessing it is oil seal in turbo, but I had it replaced with a used turbo and it is doing the same thing. Used turbo might be bad also. Happened suddenly and no power loss. No bugs in neighborhood now...

Replace the PCV valve and do a cylinder leakage test, or have one done. Ricky comes to mind as being capable to help, but I'm sure he'll offer if he is.

Sounds like blow-by and it may be time for new rings!

I'm going to agree with the Ricky option but I would think turbo seals for the smoking unless Clay has abused the engine. There are local options to having a turbo rebuilt.

How is the place near the ampitheater for turbo rebuilds? Or are there others?

Reed at turbo specialties is one of the best. I think that's who you're referring to.

I can't believe someone would consider an car that clay owns abused...Granted he doesn't have five codrivers a weekend from what I've seen with this car.

                Wait...I own one of Clay's ACR's...shit.

I had a smokey turbo for a while and I too thought it was the seals in the cartridge. It wouldn't smoke on the highway, only when stopped, and it would smoke profusely. PCV was clogged up thanks to my catch can not flowing enough. Popped off the tube to check, problem solved.

Does it smoke at idle or just under load?

Actually, found my PCV was a two way valve. So replaced it with a functioning one and the smoke is gone!
