  • timing kit miata: ebay or FM?

Ebay has the kit with water pump for $125. Flying Miata has a kit minus water pump for $170. I understand fm is reputable. But Brent is poor. Any suggestions? Please no "you get what you pay for", such is not always the case...

Get the one that is all Mazda parts and you will be fine.

The Miata has a clearance engine correct? Just drive it till it breaks. There I just saved you some money

Buy the kit from Rosenthal Mazda in Arlington, VA. Not sure on the current price, but I'm sure it is competitive. I bought many of my parts through them when I did the timing belt/water pump/crank & cam seals. They are a sponsor on miata.net, so they are easy to track down if you can't find them via google.

Thx for the advice. Figured I might as well knock this stuff out while the car is down for the trans swap. Also (hopefully) going to "depower" my power steering and flush my murky coolant system.

I got mine from Rosenthal, and was happy with the quality and the price was good.

Check the rule book for the class you plan to run. Depowered racks are a no-no in some classes. CSP for example. Check the rulebook.

I did indeed purchase a miata, Byron. John, I plan on dailying my car to and from work, and possibly a DE on occaison. No real competition for the car. I really want to improve my skills as a driver and mechanic before I consider competing in any way. Thanks for the heads up though!
