  • Best way to mount shoulder belts?

I'm looking for advice for the best way to mount shoulder belts in the Beetle. I have a horizontal bar for harnesses. Just not sure if I should just use a friction style attachments wrapped around the bar or if I should weld a tab on and bolt the harness to that. All I could find as far as regulations was to make the belt as short as possible to reduce stretch.

For the sides a sub belt I will be welding tabs to plates on the floor pan as I no longer have any factory mounts to use.

Either way works fine. I always wrapped mine on the crossbar of the rollbar/cage.

+1 on the wrapped. Make sure you follow the proper twice through procedure to lock the belts in when you wrap them. The manufacturer should provided the instructions with the belts.

+1 for wrap, and weld tabs on the sides to keep the belts from sliding on the bar.

Well I bought the bolt-on tabs ... I can add some kind of "loop" to the bar to feed the belts through and keep them in place.

Matt, what diameter is the harness bar?

I've got a bunch (4 pair) of 1.5" i.d. weight brackets (aluminum) and a pair of 1.5" i.d. steel collars that are ideal for use as harness limiters. Unless your cage is 1.75" and you mistakenly ordered 1.5"...but I digress...

No pictures handy of the collars but the brackets:

$20 a pair for the aluminum brackets, $30 for the collars (collars are steel and can have stuff welded on).

Cage is 1 5/8" ... I can just do something simple to keep the harnesses in place.
