Griffin, you could point your builder to the GCR ... all of the specs are listed there, from configurations to tubing sizes to wall thickness to weld requirements.Matt W.

you need to really look at the regulations and what you think you are going to do. If you are going to do Hillclimbs, then you have to have a full rollcage. If you are not going to do Hillclimbs, then you only need a 4 point rollbar.John Kilgore...if winning was easy, losers would do it.

Correction: You don't HAVE to HAVE a full roll cage for Hillclimbs. It is not a requirement a good recommendation but not a requirement.Originally posted by kilgojr View Postyou need to really look at the regulations and what you think you are going to do. look at the rulebook here Griffin. You said that you want to run Hillclimb and TT (flat track) so you will want to build your car to the highest level possible.
For Hillclimb (level 4 TT) it depends which class you are running. If you are going to class your car in a GCR class (Club Racing class - STO, STU, GT-Lite, GT-2, etc) then you have to have a full GCR spec roll cage.
Roll cages (as specified in the GCR) are required for the following classes: GT1, Specials, Super Production, all Formula classes,
all Sports Racer classes, open GT, and open Production vehicles. In these vehicles, the roll cage structure must meet current
GCR requirements for the specific class. If the vehicle does not fall into a Club Racing class, the cage should be prepared to the
GCR equivalent or greater (for example, a tube-frame Special car should be compared to a GT class cage, while a street-driven
car that ends up in Special because of odd modifications could be comparable to a Production or IT cage).
All other classes at Hillclimb (Level 4) Time Trials events are required to have a minimum of a roll bar that meets the description
in this section of the TTR.
Otherwise, if you are going to run as a Solo class, or a SouthEast division class your minimum would be a 4 point roll bar.John Kilgore...if winning was easy, losers would do it.

Unless it's factory glass, you need either a window net or arm restraints.
It would be easiest to start with a 4 point bar, and then go from there. It will be cheaper, and it will get you through more than you need it to with the car.M. Cholewa

The section cited here leaves out a bunch of Club Racing categories, including Improved Touring and Showroom Stock. It appears that the cage is only required for the fastest and certain open-topped classes in HillClimb. Those _not_ listed do not require a full cage for TT or Hillclimb, AFAIK.Originally posted by kilgojr View Post

The down side of this, as I understand the rules, is that this type of cage will be heavier. I believe all major tubes must be the same size, and the roll bar minimum diameters, etc., are larger than those required for a full cage.Originally posted by Cholewa View PostYou can always add onto a 4 point bar to add door bars and a roof halo and what not.Chuck Schultz

IfOriginally posted by AutoX Civic View PostI may do a 6 pt. cage. Also another question, do I need a window bar if you are running a lexan windshield?
windshields or rear windows are non-OEM glass (e.g. – Lexan, etc.) then the clip and/or straps are required.
Three (3) clips (3 inch x 1 inch x 1/8 inch) shall be bolted or riveted to the body at the top of the windshield.
Two (2) clips (3 inch x 1 inch x 1/8 inch) shall be bolted or riveted to the cowl and extend over the bottom edge of the
windshield. Clips shall be spaced a minimum of twelve (12) inches apart.
It is recommended that three (3) one (1) inch wide strips of steel or aluminum be installed behind the windshield to
support it from collapsing inwards if it becomes damaged. The rear window shall be secured with two (2) metal straps
(1 inch wide x 1/8 inch thick) bolted or riveted to the body at the top and bottom of the rear window.
Clips are mandatory, bar is recommended, but optional
Hope that helps griffinMark K

I jumped the gun and assumed he wanted to run in a solo class. Solo classes don;t require a full cage for HC. GCR classes do. What class are you wanting to run Griffin?John W8
