  • 01 Accord 4cyl burning oil

Sry I've been missing events, Im broke, lol. Anyways I'm having a problem with my accord burning oil. There is no smoke coming out the tail pipe either. I believe its the F23A1 engine, and I did an oil change on it yesterday and it only had about 1.5-2 quarts in it. The same prob. was there when I changed it a while back, but I have been using 4.5 qts Valvoline SynPower 5w-20, and there are no leaks, except that the tail pipe has a small bit of soot on the outside. Theres talk everywhere from the pcv valve to the piston rings.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

How many miles on it? They (F23A1) burn a good bit after they get a few miles on them, ours burns about 2-3 quarts between changes and has 195,000 miles.

Well, you would notice it coming out the exhaust if it were a pcv issue, so mark that one down. Since its got a lot of miles on it, I would assume it's seals, they tend to start in the upper 100k range, but so long as you aren't burning it off in combustion, just top it off every 1000 miles and live with it.

My bet is rings. Every accord 2.3 I ever saw over 150k does it . I used to rering them on a regular basis . You wont usually see smoke either on those .

yea but for all that work, I might as well just rebuild the engine right?

In essence you will be. You can hang new pistons, rings ,rod bearings , and have the head worked while you are there ,.....as long as you dont have low oil pressure or any other issues , a rering and valve job is usually all that is needed to get it back up to snuff.
